@ uncle sister

ok.plain-speaking time:

seeing as 1:you brought it up
2:people want to know
3:i've already made an arse of myself in open forum trying to answer this for you:

What EXACTLY do you mean by "an acetate of the finished version of giving ground???

iassume you dont mean the released version (which i fail to hear saxophones on) and would be pointless trying to boot/weed as we've all got it.

please answer without prevarication or "enigma" as no-one likes a smart arse.

Well Uncle Sisters, just to fat the cow by the horns (Idiot Belgian joke, no worries ;) ), is an acetate playable on a 'normal' record player, or do you need special equipment for that, or a special needle?

You can come over to me and we'll feed it to my Big Machine and make a copy on CD...

As I did with the gig from Pallieterhal, Lier, Belgium 1984... (with bad results, what with the original source being a crappy audio tape)

IZ.

Acetate is one of the original pressings. Not on real vinyl, but it's one of the things in the production process which can be played on a normal record player.

The downside:
IIRC, they're very scratchable and breakable.
After a few plays (maybe up to 20), they're totally unlistenable. Many dance artists make acetates for DJs to play as opposed to normal vinyl records of their work, because they won't need to be played a lot, and are cheaper to produce.

Correct me if I'm wrong. I'm sure Wikipedia has more info on it than I do.

in a nutshell: the person who has it offers out 2 copies for free.

the 2 recipients of this initial offer each then send out another 2 copies for free, etc etc, and so it goes...

thus it spreads, like a weed.

its a bit like trading but free, and quite useful in helping newcomers get started 8)

I wouldn't mind a copy and I will give you, in return, one of your master tapes that I have in my possession. It's a one inch Ampex tape with Dustboat, A New Kind Of Assassin, Heartless & Faith Healer.

A fair swap?

It came from a house in Brixton that a friend of mine moved into. Apparently it was in the loft?
