Why does everybody sound so down?

It sounds like it was simply a gig with bad sound and new band members to break in. Perhaps they simply could have done with a warm up gig somewhere - perhaps Las Vegas WAS the warm up gig!

It'll take them a few weeks to tighten up and then when they hit Europe they will be the mad unstoppable force we know and love.

Perhaps they are learning to play the old familiar stuff well before slipping in the new stuff (or maybe there isn't any).

Lets wait and see! They can only get better and better!

Not down Jez. Slightly disappointed but far more excited and happy.... :D

You might be right about that warming up. In 2003 the new song Slept wasn't performed in Amsterdam but was the gig(s) after. So let's wait and see what happens.... 8)

No interviews at all??? :urff:

I went to the afore mentioned Amsterdam gig, and it was the worst
Sisters gig i have been to. (apart from the Astoria in London night2:2001)
...and I've seen them 20 times or so.
that night they were not *bad*, just in warm up first-night-at-the-theatre
mode, and it wasnt too much fun, that's all.

Well, Tilburg last year definately was a good first gig on the other hand...

Not a single interview for 52 gigs? Don't know what the not-so fanatic crowd will say of that :|

And not down either, Jez

I guess I'm just one of the few who actually liked this gig but that's another story....

Hm, I think it -is- a surprise. New guitar player, biggest tour ever, playing places they have never been to before. There are lots of topics with which you can avoid unpleasant questions about a new album ;-)

If it's true at all; I thought Andrew himself was now the tour-manager.

EDIT: Also, he did at least two interviews during Smoke&mirrors, in Warsaw and in London.

Did Von say "goodnight" or "goodbye?"

I guess no "goodbye" (yet) as there are 51 gigs ahead. :innocent:

Reading between the lines it sounds like all the guitar parts & arrangements (apart from maybe Alice) are the same? This'd be the first time the line-up's changed without making any changes to the sound of the band...

I don't mind if they have a slow start - it's ages before they're playing a show I'm seeing  :innocent:

(I was at that A'dam show '03 - it was cack!)

Hmm, I was hoping that they would have a real bassplayer instead of the doctor this time... Makes you wonder, would there be a financial reason for not having a bass-player (to pay)?

That's a real shame for the people who made all that effort to get to LV.

I guess it was the first show of a long tour, Chris has been in hospital and they are under-rehearsed.

I seem to remember the York gig in 2001 having technical problems and a standard setlist, and that was with an established line-up!
YES AND TEH NEXT DAY IN LEEDS WAS ONE OF THE BEST SISTERS GIG EVER...(I KNOW WWHAT I SAYD,I WAS THERE) IT WILL GET BETTER,I´M TOTALLY SURE(IT´S A LONG TOUR....)

Please do not shoot the messanger - I am merely cutting and pasting this from UK gossip email round robin called Holey Moley - bit like Popbitch.. anyway...

"This is from the Sisters Of Mercy's current touring contract.

"The promoter must NOT USE any of the following terms, or any local translation of them, or any word derived from any of them, and will use his best endeavours to avoid using any similar terms of abuse:
Doom, goth, death, dark.

This applies to the content of all advertising and promoter's announcements."

Presumably the following terms are fine to use:
Humdrum, dreary, past it, best years are behind them."

end quote.
I'm still going to see them.....

What? Does that mean I shouldnt run "The dark Goth legend Sisters of Mercy are doomed to repeat their setlist until death finally releases them?" through the Reuter's ticker? :innocent:

ok so y'all seem a bit disappointed by the setlist -what did you expect (not want) ? so there's no new songs/record... do you think that eldritch would be capable of putting-out to the tune of 52 dates if he had just spent forever in a studio? we know that's not the case anyway -taking into account downtime after the summer gigs, adam leaving, ben joining, planning a tour and christmas (yes some people celebrate christmas in the rock 'n' roll world too) what chance have they had? sorry, but the new album theory behind this tour was a no-brainer from the start.
i have also stopped thinking of this as a farewell tour -it's a thank-you tour even if it is the last. and look at it this way -if we hadn't had 52 big thank-you's from eldritch (where everyone in the civillised world at least gets a chance to see them :P )
how much more disappointed would you all have been?

stop whinging....or indeed -shut the fuck up. :von:

Amen.

And judging by history, their will be some surprises down the road (new song, cover tune, etc.) Always look on the bright side of life :)

Er.... excuse me? All I was doing was copying a admittedly not that humerous email - not my handiwork my good man - as I said 'don't shoot the messenger. You do understand what I mean by that don't you? :?: Or is your missive directed at the author of this humerous aside? Either way I think it should be taken with a pinch of salt and in the manner that it was intended. . i.e not very seriously.
