This law was only enacted in 2009 (although in such a way as to make a prosecution nearly impossible according to the Minister responsible). Anyway, if this report was designed to test the law then it's fallen at the first hurdle, not having the support of a sufficient number of "outraged people"

I always find it funny when you hear older people complain about the "Yoof" as if they are miles worse than many of their generation. I remember my age group there were a lot involved in football hooliganism, my mother once said jokingly I hear the Mods and Rockers are coming down at the weekend and the woman carrying drinks dropped her tray and was very upset. There were issues in Glasgow in the 50's and I guess in other cities, every generation has had its fair share of tossers.

I've just spent the morning patching servers and likely to roll over into the afternoon and evening too.

We're not that bad; our clients were all patched but on the server side we have an unfortunate combination of "no downtime during office hours" and "we have no budget for overtime" going on, meaning that servers which can't be taken offline during office hours end up not being patched. At least when something like this goes global we have a better chance of our user base accepting some downtime.

Yeah that sounds familiar.

Fortunately we have a guy here who can - and does - object to that sort of management stupidity, and he has sufficient seniority that he's taken seriously. I look forward to the chaos when he finally retires!

I got sucked into a flat earth facebook group a while ago. I lasted less than a week before I blocked all the group admins and removed myself from it

It's not so much the flat-earthism by itself, it's the toxic mix of all sorts of other loopy ideas: moon-landing-denialism, anti-vaxxism, 9-11-truthism, Obama-birtherism...

The final straw was a post about Stephen Hawking whose "logic" went something like this:
1) Hawking was diagnosed with ALS in 1963.
2) No-one survives more than 10 years with ALS.
3) Therefore Hawking is actually dead and the person everyone currently thinks is him, is actually an impostor.

I got called a troll for asking where they found another paralysed physics genius willing to impersonate Hawking.
