This will easily be the LONGEST posting I ever did, it is a rough translation of our interview into Eengleesh.

Forgive my spelling errors, mistakes, awkward translations etc, as this was on-the-spot and I really can't be arsed to re-read it; for translating a 1-hour interview is a fecking TIRING job!
Respect to all people doing this for a living! :notworthy:

Anyhoo, here goes:

Interviewer Radio Scorpio=S
Raf=R
Iz=Iz

S: what you get in this program today is wave and gothic and the like. But also some guests in the studio, two Belgian projects, FGG and Ahr...Arjj... Ahrayeph... Maybe we'd better ask the man himself...anyway, we start off the show with a track chosen by the people of Ahrayeph and that's "The God Machine", with "The Devil Song".

(song plays)

S: so that was "The Devil Song" by the God Machine, chosen by RAF. Welcome Raf. Ehm, as I said before, please pronounce the bandname yourself like it is supposed to sound, it is written A,H,R,A,Y,E,P,H, but how do you pronounce it?

R: well, it is just a difficult way to write the simple name R.A.F.

S: pronunciation is as simple as that: "R.A.F." Well, you are active in the music scene for quite a while now, which bands did you play an active role in up till now?

R: well, I started out with my own Gothrock band Crucifire; that name was altered later on, because it sounded too 'metal', and just like Ahrayeph it had some metal influences, but it was not quite the right name...Therefore I altered the bandname to Ahrayeph. In the Crucifire days I was also a member of the Black Metalband Ancient Rites, which I quit after a while. Two years ago I re-joined that band to help them write songs for their last album 'Rubicon', but I recently said them farewell again to fully concentrate on Ahrayeph

S: We just heard The God Machine as opener, one of your favourite bands, I presume?

R: Absolutely. What Robin Proper-Sheppard did in the past, and also today with 'Sophia', I think is superb, it has a timeless quality, and the CD 'One last laugh in a place of dying', is a CD you can find frequently in my cd-player.

S: It is indeed a classic. Now Ahrayeph, how would you describe the music?

R: Well, musicians always have problems with being categorised, but people love to label a band, so I would go for 'gothrock', with some industrial and metal-influences, and maybe here and there some Noise...

S: and is it a one-man-project or are other people involved as well?

R: it was a one-man-project initially, up until I received some feedback from ther musicians a couple of months ago, who were interested in the music and found it very good, and thus we became a quartet, and today (this is hot news for Scorpio Radio exclusively) a drummer offered his services (a very good drummer, by the way, playing in the metal band 'Isle'), but we don't know yet if we are going to accept his offer. In the beginning, I deliberately chose to work with a drum computer (in analogy with TSOM but not quite), because it is easier to work with, and the modern techniques are thus far developed, one can barely hear the difference between real drums and a drum computer. So I'm very flattered by Steve's offer, and we will discuss it, but it is not certain we will work with a real drummer in the future.

S: Next up, a song from Ahrayeph, and we will continue the talk after that. The song we're about to hear is called 'Lilith', from their demo CD.

(song plays, Radiohead song played directly after that)

S: For the first time in the history of 'Kagan', this was Radiohead, from their cd 'OK Computer' we heard 'Climbing up the walls' also one of the favourite Raf/ARF tracks. In the meantime, we are joined by yet another person...welcome, Izzy.

IZ: welcome yourself. Good day.

S: and your band was called how again?

IZ: my band is FGG.

S: and everyone just calls you Izzy? Everybody knows you as Izzy anyway..?

IZ: most people, yes...

S: Now, FGG, that's Izzy and...who else?

IZ: and samdevos

S: and there seems to be a certain other member called Ed..?

IZ: yes, at one poit he joined us indeed, but at the moment he has the status of guest musician. He has a lot of projects in the pipeline, and it's becoming very difficult to combine all the things he does, but he will keep on collaborating with us in the future.

S: OK, now FGG is a bit different, style-wise, from ARF, well different from 'Lilith' anyway, the ARF song we just heard... how can you describe the music genre?

IZ: well, FGG started out as a Dark Ambient band, but at the moment we are broadening our horizon a bit, so we like to call it Ambient Music or Soundtrack Music.

S: well, a bit similar to what we find on the Cold Meat label, and we don't drop that name without a reason, because you guys are featured on a Cold Meat sampler, no?

IZ: correct, we feature on 'All My Dead Friends', the new CMI sampler.

S:...with a song we will play in a moment, a song titled 'Jugement something something'...

IZ: 'Le Jugement Du Roi En Jaune'

S: Indeed. That goes way smoother hearing it out of your mouth. As said, we will hear this song shortly after. Maybe just one more thing first, FGG, how long yet are you making music?

IZ: FGG started somewhere in AUgust 2004, as a solo project. The demo 'Lethargy' was brought out around that time. Then I decided to continue with other people together, with Sam and then it became a real band project.

S: before FGG, did you play in other significant projects?

IZ: yes, from age 16 on I played in various bands, which were more metal-oriented.

S: probably not so well-known to our audience, then. OK, we're going to listen to your contribution to the CMI sampler, 'Le Jugement yadda yadda'...

(Jugement yadda yadda plays, ARF and I start silly chit-chat, inaudible for the audience. Which is a good thing, probably. 'Synopsis' by Raison d'Etre is played after 'Jugement'. Arf and I sit down and start singing about gold. Day Dawns. The technician thinks this is a superb moment for the interviewer to start some very uninteresting Party Announcement, spoiling the whole song... BOOO! hehe)

S: We also heard Raison d'Etre 'Synopsis', chosen by FGG. Meanwhile, they are still with us: Raf from FGG and Izzy from...erhhhh... *cough* sorry, RAF from Ahrayeph and Izzy FGG of course, a small mixup there...

R: can I take this moment to congratulate Izzy with his joining Ahrayeph, then?

IZ: ...and vice versa of course.

S: *nervous giggle* ah ok then... well, Raison d'Etre, why this song?

IZ: well, the man that started it all for me, Peter Andersson... when, in a far past, I was still encarcerated in that dank, dark metal scene, CMI started to gather interest from a certain dark Black Metal crowd, and Raison d'Etre was one of the first bands I discovered thus. What Peter does with soundscapes is just brilliant, and even his newer work is very beautiful.

S: now, you guys (IZ and ARF) know each other for some time now. Maybe not in real life, but from somewhere else, being...?

R: I gues you are referring to the Heartland forum, the unofficial forum for everything that might or might not have to do with TSOM, the fact included they still don't record new songs. The reason why I joined that forum is a very jolly Scotsman and good friend of us both, JAMES BLAST (minute 29! YAY!). He heard a coverversion I made from an unrecorded Sisters song named 'SUmmer'(a song I recorded somewhere during boring sex or something like that). He was very enthousiastic about the song, and he told me about a project going on on the HL forum called 'While we're waiting...' (where musically gifted HL members cover unreleased Sisters songs)...

S: and did you talk about the project with mr. Andrew himself already?

R: maybe he did already, disguised as a forum member, but I can't say for certain.

S: well, it is a very appropriate title: 'While we're waiting...', because that is what the forum members are doing, with a lot of mutual interaction, I presume.

IZ: yes, I fear, if we have to wait for the Man Himself to release the songs, we're better off recording them ourselves...

S: and are there plans for a FGG contribution to this project?

IZ: yes, but we can't possibly comment on that... it will be something special..maybe...maybe a collab with ARF, who knows?

R: I'd love to...

S: (pressing the matter) so will it be a song that has been covered by another HL member already or one that has not been covered yet?... Can you just give us a hint?

Iz: it will be better than the real thing, definitely. I can't say anything more...

(ARF almost choking with laughter in the background)

S: well, let's listen to one of these covers. Since FGG didn't record any covers yet, we will only have an ARF cover to listen at. This one is called 'Summer', and as said it is one of those 'new' unreleased Sisters songs. Covered by the fans...

('Summer' plays, followed by 'Afterhours'. The Real Deal.)

S: here they were, the Big Examples themselves, Sisters of Mercy (!) with 'Afterhours'. (ARF and IZ are doing a very good Wayne's World interpretation) Well, a lot of Hails and NotWorthy's going on here in the studio for Mr. Eldritch. I guess we'd better be going on with the interview... FGG and ARF, they both brought out some demo's. Is there a way people could get hold of any of these demo's? RAF?

R: well, it's becoming more difficult. We decided to do a big Demo Give-away action, mainly on the HL forum, (and I'm not looking at anyone in particular here) *Izzy starts to look around for something very interesting to focus on* and the reactions there were so enthousiastic, we had to give away demo's that were initially meant for promotional purposes only (labels, radio stations and the like).

S: by the way, what's the demo title?

R: It is called 'Heralding the Marooned', a bit referential to the upcoming full cd, titled 'Marooned on Samsara'. So the demo can be seen as an 'introduction' to the upcoming CD.

S: Tell us something more about that title and its origin.

R: Well...'Stranded on Earth' sounds a bit more shallow and ain't such a glamourous title, when all's said and done. 'Marooned on Samsara' is just a more intellectual way of saying just that... that one is stranded here on Earth. 'Samsara' is the Buddhist term for our world, and the tile is loosely based on the reincarnation theme. The soul chooses to come back to this earth, but my own soul really thinks it is 'stranded' here rather than 'returned with satisfaction guaranteed'...

S: well, people can listen to your music anyway, by means of your MySpace...

R: yes, there is a MySpace page, www.myspace.com/ahrayeph, difficult spelling and all, you can check the correct spelling on the 'Kagan' site or the Radio Scorpio site. Also, and almost forgotten by yoru humble servant is a pay-download site on LegalDownload, where four old songs still reside. The new versions will feature on the full-cd, by the way.

S: and they can reach those by your website www.ahrayeph.be then?

R: not yet, but the link to LegalDownload wil be reinstated one of these days. I assumed the LegalDownload paged would be expired by now, but it still seems to be alive. And again, it was pointed out by some HL member, who took a genuine interest in these songs as well...

S: FGG then, which masterpieces did you release up till now?

Iz: Well, there's the first demo 'Lethargy' from 2004.

S: Is it still available?

IZ: only our personal copies, and I see one lying behind this window here....

S: well, that one will disappear shortly after this...

IZ: I think not, because that is MY personal copy. As said, the demo is not available for sale anymore.

s: and more recent releases?

IZ: there is a promo-cd available, and there will be other PRODUCT in the near future. And in the meantime, there's the CMI sampler with our song Jugement... There's also the myspace, www.myspace.com/forgreatergood... without difficult spelling for a change... we have a last.fm page, and a website www.forgreatergood.be also featuring some songs.

S: and the songs there are free downloads.

IZ: yes, you can leech them there for free, indeed.

S: that's modern technology for you. You guys got some live-gigs in the near future?

IZ: yes (Izzy announces the Feb 17 and Feb 24 gigs)

S: and ARF, some gigs in the pipeline?

R: not for the moment, no. Our management is busy to arrange things (say, in two-three months), to do a live gig, most probably here in Leuven. But nothing really defined, mostly for technical reasons. We have to start rehearsing and the band has to become familiar with the songs.

S: ok. Back to FGG then, maybe you van introduce the next song called 'Love Yer Terrorist'.

IZ: 'LYT' is based upon the Guantanamo-situation and the camps there where so-called terrorists are imprisoned.

S: and this is a nex track that will feature on an upcoming cd?

IZ: indeed.

S: ok... 'LYT' by FGG

(song plays, followed by 'Kampfbereit' by Front 242)

S: this small Belgian band is well-known to most of our listeners, I presume, Front 242 and 'Kampfbereit'. IZ, you played as opener for Front 242 a while ago. How come?

IZ: well, Daniel (Front 242) is the producer of the Belgian band Troissoeur, and Ed, our violin player, is also a member of Troissoeur, so that link is easily made.

S: and you played during Front 242s Birthday gig.

IZ: yes, their 25th Anniversary.

S: but, soon enough, on yer own feet eh?

IZ: yes, and with our OWN birthday party...

S: how did the crowd react then, at the AB gig, as opener for Front 242?

IZ: well, there seemed to be quite an enthousiastic crowd there, tho it is always difficult to say when you are playing for the Big Black hole that is the AB Main Stage... But meainly the reactions were very positive.

S: another thing I was wondering about... when you're making songs with FGG, do you guys make one piece of a song each and then give it to each other for a listen, or what working process do you guys use?

IZ: well, yes it's more of a back-and-forwards thing, as is usual with 'projects'. We also don't have regular rehearsals, only right before we have a gig or something. Most of the time one starts with a melody, the other one adds something, then we both give it a listen, we add some, we delete some... it is really a Iz and Sam collaboration.

S: Ok, thanks for coming to the studio, and I wish you a lot of success with the upcoming gigs... RAF, also a big thanks for hopping in... any last words for our listeners?

R: not much, I'd say, go and have a look at the MySpace page, where you can listen to some songs. There's also the website, www.ahrayeph.be, and for the rest I can only urge people to come to the FGG birthday Party, because I will attend that one myself.

S: That's a very friendly gesture...

IZ: you still know the date of the party, Raf?

R: 24-2, for some reason or other, it kinda sticks in my mind yes...

IZ: could be because of the '242' maybe...

S: ok, time's up, we leave you with LFO, the song is called 'Loch Ness' this song was also chosen by FGG...

And then you forgot about all the pre- and post interview talk about pandas, a certain top BLAST bloke and everything else that's not fit to print here... ;D

P.S. : a few corrections : 'Sheperd' is Robin Proper- Sheppard, his current band is named 'Sophia' and I was single at the time of conceiving the 'Summer' cover (hence the bad sex). Perhaps at the present I should cover some more songs... ;D

Yes, I'm not intae the God Machine so I thought I could have missed a bit there ;)

Hey! I specially went to your ARF main page to check the spelling if 'Crucifire'! ;D

You can do additions and correctins of course, and I wisely left out the pandas yes

I changed the MP3 interview to an OGG interview, which reduces it from 80-odd Mb to 35 Mb.

I have to keep in mind my bandwidth and all ;)

Most players support OGG Vorbis, so not much to worry about, I hope.

Quality might be a wee bit worse, but not much.

Enjoy again! ;D

PS: uploading as we speak, so have a bit of patience ;) should be up in 15 minutes or so...
