I hear ya, man!

Well, IZ, fact is that most people who live in a fantasy world created by their own neurosises (?) and mass media and plain weakness in the face of facts (though i admit this state of affairs is not natural but has been foisted upon people, yet this doesn't excuse them from succumbing to it), generally do find everything full-hearted, and everything real, rather disgusting. This is nothing if not logical and iz to understand

If i wanted to elaborate abit on my dull response to you, i could add that this pride for one's country is exactly the kind of rhetoric that usurps the good instinct of people in general to have pride in their culture and heritage and values...first all that is good about what that instinct refers to is destroyed and then replace it with stupidity (like americans being anti-american if they dare speak out against the war). A good example of subversion also.

Trouble is, for a lot of folks, country equals culture. And I don't mean from the perspective of the way they think, I mean quite literally. Take the Japanese, for example. For most of them, country most definitely does equal culture, and the two terms can be used pretty much interchangeably.

It's when "pride in one's country/culture/heritage/etc" gets confused with "support for the elected politicians of the day" that trouble starts brewing...
