Unfortunately, no, he's not kidding.
It's them cyber-goths. T'choh! Call themselves goths? With wool in their hair and dancing to bleepy sh!te? Not in my day.
Anyhoo, returning to the topic, As Sinnie points out, they're doing it wrong. Everyone knows that the lass is supposed to have her bloke on a lead in sub-dom relationships.

Why being so formalistic, Marky ? Why wouldn't women get their kick out of a bit of domination play ?
Thats's sooooo last century...

It is a bit degrading to her though to be serious.

Only if
she decides that it is, though. Saying that the situation is degrading to her is projecting your personal beliefs onto her and her relationship. She's made the choice to be on the lead of her
own free will, after all.

One can still degrade oneself by one's "own free will", though

The fact they are shocking people is quite healthy really. We now know we still have values and morale in this world, ou society is not breaking apart after all. God bless.
Now honestly the fact she's quite deliberately putting herself in this position is a rather interesting move. As Marky noticed, people would probably be less offended if the bloke was on the lead. There's still a lot to be said about the position of women throughout this world, and the fact she lets herself be dominated in public has the merit of questionning a lot about the traditional image of women. Then of course one could argue wheter she is just a) plain ignorant of this b) aware and very daring c) just a teenager who doesn't give a blip about it anyway.
I must admit the photo does make me feel a little uneasy, but i feel some respect for the lady. Besides i have a huge sympathy for for these two as for anyone who dares to let the inner freak out into the streets. Come on, i mean forever casual wear and suits everywhere is just horrible (come to Switzerland if you don't believe me.)
Besides, we all see it as a sign of domination, but it might mean something totally different to them. Let's not forget that every little gang and tribe has its own meaning for their own rituals....Speak of the subject of the "fascination for death in the goth subculture" anyone ??

And of course, women in the (apparently) enlightened, (so-called) Christian West are never abused are they? No, not at all.
Cybergoth = Candy Rave for the alternatively minded.
Right, back on topic...
Why is it degrading for a woman to allow herself to be lead around by a lead, but not for a man?
And seeing as how we're on the subject of fetishes...
That could be interpreted in several ways...

He's forgotten the handcuffs at home anyway.
We live in a myspace world -- I'm surprised that would even raise an eyebrow amongst people well versed in the Web. Total exhibitionism in public is the norm for today's youth.
