Nice shots Pat... the sunset could maybe do with a little crop at the bottom ?
not sure what the thing sticking into the frame is?
As we are doing Moon shots....

Thanks Martin,James had left me hanging, I'd no idea what was wrong with it, everyday is a school day.Hard to believe your moon shot is hand held, nicely done.

I think it is a stunning photo, but the pros see it different sometimes, not necessarily a bad thing... Maybe an explanation on the WHY might be in order James, so Pat can learn if he wants to?
I agree, as an amateur
that sunset might benefit from a little crop in the bottom, just enough to erase that black triangle there...

It is a tough one...
The triangle is distracting and doesn't "add" to the shot. you could crop it out but you would then lose the lovely reflection.
You could also crop to put the spit of land onto a 1/3 to follow the rule.. this might also lose too much of the reflection....
You could try cloning the triangle thing out... but I think that would be tough with the reflection...
Try it and see what happens....
WRT the Moon shot:-
The moon is surprisingly bright if you zoom right in... with spot metering and IS on the lens it wasn't horrendous... but trying to hand hold a 7D with a 100-400 pointing straight up is pretty difficult... Next tipe the Redsnapper will be coming out...

Not a problem, I'd done the same thing and replaced it on flickr after Martins post.
