I miss the yelps and howls. I was listening to the NYC 1991 recording the other day, and it really, really presents a band at the top of their game (which surprised me, since I never really dug the VT live band that much. But it all comes together at this show).

well, i mean, yeah, you're both right, but he always kinda yealped :|

but i know what you mean...

in his defence, he can still prowl the stage like a mean motherf**ker though. yealping or no, i find him incredibly watchable on stage. and the rest of the band make a great noise.
Agree, for me his stage presence is the magnet. Maybe he should stop being the singer and play guitar..... (with Wayne as vocalist)

I think his voice is perfect now for the industrial groove machine thing. While he can't do the bellowing bits like he used to, on a good day he rumbles and howls like a bastard. I guess it's a matter of which style and which songs to go with it you prefer.

Everyone's taste is different, but I thought his voice was really good when I saw them in Leeds this year. And also on recordings from other gigs this. One reason why a live album would be fantastic: That voice in a proper mix, 7th girl heaven

Oh, seriously, Blast! You've got a negative fixation thing there. I'm gonna listen to Doctoravalanche's Paris bootsie now, cause this conversation reminded me of how good it is ;D

I'm not deluded, I can let a grudge go. I was underwhelmed like you. But what surfaced from last year sparked my interested again, and Leeds this year was fantastic.

True. But Cohen was some fifteen years ago...

If you mean the little yealps just before he sings a line, then yep. They are pretty annoying a feeble.
But get yer lugs round a recent Flood II.
When he yells Flood it's nothing sort of trouser browning.

I think the gasp tends to be more prominent on the bootlegs than it is in reality. Maybe the sudden high end gets emphasized somehow, I don't know. Either way, a stonking rendition of Summer wouldn't be the same without it.
