Alanis Morrisette is quite a clever lyricist too me thinks

Only if by clever you mean sneaking in profound insights that are so well hidden that no-one has ever noticed them. Otherwise, smell the caffeine-free coffee, Hippy!

Sure thing. CorpPunk has voluntered to do it in Florida.

You do know about the de Coverly weighted voting rights provisions, don't you?

ALANIS?!?! This is getting silly. It'll be the telly tubbies next.

Theres a certain poignancy to some of the works of "Bob T Builder" as well. It's all about the hidden meanings...

*Correction*

CorpPunk has volunteered to point MrChris in the direction of Florida to do it himself. I endeavour to stay north of the Mason-Dixon Line, whenever possible. Them Rebs is kerrazy!

I really like these lyrics

"Sk8er Boi"
He was a boy
She was a girl
Can i make it any more obvious
He was a punk
She did ballet
What more can i say
He wanted her
She'd never tell secretly she wanted him as well
But all of her friends
Stuck up their nose
They had a problem with his baggy clothes

He was a skater boy
She said see you later boy
He wasn't good enough for her
She had a pretty face
But her head was up in space
She needed to come back down to earth

5 years from now
She sits at home
Feeding the baby she's all alone
She turns on tv
Guess who she sees
Skater boy rockin up MTV
She calls up her friends
They already know
And they've all got
Tickets to see his show
She tags along
Stands in the crowd
Looks up at the man that she turned down

He was a skater boy
She said see you later boy
He wasn't good enough for her
Now he's a super star
Slamming on his guitar
Does your pretty face see what he's worth?

And if you think of all the Cult's hits you'll see it's absolutely meaningless but somehow it still rocks! Most amazing!
Pay no attention. I meant Ian Astbury.
Have in mind I have a bad case of associative dyslexia.
Ian Astbury + Patrick Duffy...

I happen to like Ian Astbury's lyrics, they are very sensuous. And the man can sing!!! LOL That's why my haunt..is CultWeb!!

Your confusion on Duffy...It's Billy Duffy, and he is a member of The Cult.
OH - MY - GOD !!!

It's getting worse! Patrick Duffy is "Bobby" from "Dallas", aka "man from Atlantis".

I told you I have a problem...
And I have a poster of Astbury and Duffy in my bedroom, so I ought to know...
Anyway, the poster isn't here for the good lyrics. :innocent:

*sorry if Patrick Duffy lingers in my subconcious mind but check the pic...*

Marilyn Manson is also a great lyricist.

*before I duck*

His problem is he keeps on repeating himself and using the same metaphors over and over again...

Not at all like our favourite lyricist that would never dwell on trains, flowers, mirrors and self explanatory sentences like "shut the f**k up"...

*now I duck*

No, no, Von's metaphorical vocabulary runs way beyond trains, flowers and mirrors. He also talks about guns, drugs and cars. This is very important.

Years ago I told my friend that Sisters' lyrics are far more interesting than usual pop/rock stuff. He took ASCOOB, watched the lyric sheet for some minutes and answered something like that:
"Yes, indeed, very interesting - guns and cars and accidents" ;D

The "drugs" were included in the "mirrors" and "trains". As for women in general, they're included in the "flowers".

Aye. Blue Nun, it would seem.

As for the best lyricist; Blixa Bargeld.

Thanks D.I - nice to know there's at least one other Manson fan on this forum , I was beginning to feel like an outcast ....

And I heartily agree with your comments.

"Drop the S because I am an aint..." - beautiful!! :notworthy:

These are soon to be classic lyrics, also on the album (hiding in shame  ) there are some very heavy lyrics about washing your hair in the shower, and how you'll braid them in a zillion braids..... respect where respect is due.

Other than that, I have been listening to a lot of Nick Cave recently, and he has to be up there with the best of them.

Nope. You got me. Isn't ringing any bells ...unless it's that '77' thing, in which case it doesn't count as I've already told you I can't listen to more than two tracks in succession without my head hurting. :urff:

Cigar? :D No cigar?

Cigar, you got the right man! Not '77' but a bit of a cheat as it's not out yet though...

Bit of a long shot here, but Dreamweapon, seeing that you might be a Hunter S. Thompson fan, do you have the song that HST wrote the lyrics for and that is sung by Ralph Steadman - "These Long and Twisted Nights"? Been looking for it for some time.

Phew! Educated guess as I'd already mentoned him on this thread and the next step up from the 'pre-school' generation was the 'pre-pubescent adolescent' generation. He's now got a political agenda? How strange ...

Rest of HL: 'What the fcuk are they talking about?'
