London Bombs - Part 2

Does exactly what it says on the tin. Some of the nonsense contained herein may be very loosely related to The Sisters of Mercy, but I wouldn't bet your PayPal account on it. In keeping with the internet's general theme nothing written here should be taken as Gospel: over three quarters of it is utter gibberish, and most of the forum's denizens haven't spoken to another human being face-to-face for decades. Don't worry your pretty little heads about it. Above all else, remember this: You don't have to stay forever. I will understand.

I suppose that's a fair point. ;D

Ah well. Eyewitness testimony isn't the most reliable. I imagine the scenario is more like that than the quote I posted to be honest. I don't think the police would be quite that blatant about killing someone in cold blood.

Oh come on. The only reason anyone might have for running away from armed police is that they're a suicide bomber?

Anyway he was not running when they shot him:
The BBC wrote:I saw an Asian guy run onto the train hotly pursued by three plain-clothes police officers.

One of them was carrying a black handgun - it looked like an automatic - they pushed him to the floor, bundled on top of him and unloaded five shots into him.
Once he was on the floor with police officers on top of him he could have been cuffed rather than shot five times, don't you think?
Nope, wasn't there, so not enough evidence to judge

Fiend, I've warned you about these slight lefty tendancies before! Go and eat a pork pie!

Depends - if he was struggling with the cops, attempting to push the "bang" button on his bomb belt, then the cops had every damn right to shoot him, because that would be reasonable force (deadly force vs deadly force is reasonable force according to the law, whether you're a cop or civilian I believe).

Alternatively, if it's a case of 'let's shoot him in revenge' then obviously it's completely wrong.

Best to wait for the full details, I think.

And anyway, the eyewitness account that Richey has quoted has called the eyewitness account I quoted into question.

Yup. Contradictory reports, smoke and mirrors, von's first law of the Internet...

The shortened version of what I read in the ES tonite. He had been identified (Oval bomber) and Police had intelligence that he was hiding in Brixton Mosque last night. Three plain clothes armed officers stalked out the road between the mosque and Stockwell tube. When the suspect appeared they trailed him. Suspect became aware and began to run towards the tube complete with rucksack. Refused to stop, jumped the ticket barriers, and was heading for a train with open doors sitting on the platform. One shot took him down. Another five finished him off.

The authorities have confirmed there is a shoot to kill policy in place.

One f*cker down. Three to go.

Definitely. Grown men wetting the tips of their fingers onto a small hard spherical object and then rubbing it against their groin to leave a big red stain? :urff: :urff:

Why don't you ask the kids at Tiananmen Square
Was fashion the reason why they were there?

they don't as a matter of course, but armed police are specially deployed as and when required (terrorist threats etc) and at airports, around government ministers, the Windsors, etc.

Unless you live in the St Anns district of Nottingham:

I think Monica Richards sums up a lot of it -

http://www.monicarichards.com/musings/july1005.html

Monica Richards, Lead singer of Faith and the Muse.

July 10th, 2005, The New Attacks: How strategic to go after London while the cops are babysitting protesters at G8! And the endless blathering of the newscasters, worrying about all local possible targets, spouting nothing original in their observations, quicky "let's put police on all the trains in big cities for three days until they get too tired and we can't afford the overtime"... We received no less than seven emails about the lyrics to "Sredni Vashtar" since the attacks - that they ring so true right now. And that's exactly what I meant when I wrote them - "This is not a darker age, just the turning of the wheel" - this has all been going on for centuries, groups and struggles change, but violence is no stranger to human history. One Londoner spoke about the IRA bombings, the bombings during WWII, it all goes on in the cycle of life, unfortunately. Don't feel gripped by fear about what's happening today, we have a much better life than our ancestors, hands down! Live your life the best way you can, don't wait to follow your dreams... Our lives are what we make them, don't ever forget that.

You can hear the song at http://www.myspace.com/faithandthemuse

Sredni Vashtar

Time to show some sharper teeth Time to grow a thicker skin
Time to drop the seventh veil and let some madness wander in
This is not a darker age Just the turning of the wheel
I am here to reassure we never really had control
This world was never kind
Separate your present mind
Time to show some sharper teeth Time to grow a thicker skin
Time to drop the seventh veil and let some madness wander in.
What is luxury today will be necessity tomorrow
This is not a way of life Your future past betrays its values
This world was never kind
Separate your present mind
Time to show some sharper teeth Time to grow a thicker skin
Time to drop the seventh veil and let some madness wander in
This is not a darker age Just the turning of the wheel
I am here to reassure we never really had control
This world was never kind
Separate your present mind.

fair enough,if the police thought he was carrying a bomb -or otherwise armed -that they shoot him.however it now seems less certain that that is what they thought.
even whether he was an actual suspect is as yet unconfirmed.all that seems known at the time of writing is he left a "suspect" house which was under surveillance.
until the full details are disclosed,i'll reserve judgement...but i hope there is evidence to completely justify the shooting,'cause if not it'll stir up a nasty little hornets nest.(not to mention being a bit of a bummer for the bloke concerned).
Well I was handsome and I was strong

Well, I'm used to that.

I just think that giving it such importance as to compare it to 9/11 is counterproductive.

Although one shouldn't laugh during times like these...but I had to raise a snigger at the 'escape plans' of suicide bombers....would that be an oxymoron?

Possibly not appropriate but there does seem to be something in the air here at Heartland....I cast my caution aside as I entered the room.

Be aware that the French government announced yesterday that it has raised its terror alert level from RUN to HIDE.

The only two higher levels in France are Surrender and Collaborate.

The rise was precipitated by a recent fire that destroyed France's white flag factory, effectively paralysing their military capability.

It's not only the French that are on a heightened level of alert,

The Italians have increased their alert level from "shout loudly and excitedly" to "elaborate military posturing". Two more levels remain, "ineffective combat operations" and "change sides".

The Germans also increased their alert state from "disdainful arrogance" to "dress in uniform and sing marching songs". They have two higher levels, "invade a neighbour" and "lose".

Seeing this reaction in continental Europe the Americans have gone from "isolationism" to "find somewhere else in the middle east ripe for regime change". Their remaining higher alert states are "take on the world" and "ask the British for help".

Finally here in GB we've gone from "pretend nothing's happening" to "make another cup of tea". Our higher levels are "remain resolutely cheerful" and "win".
