The all new NEWSWORTHY thread

Does exactly what it says on the tin. Some of the nonsense contained herein may be very loosely related to The Sisters of Mercy, but I wouldn't bet your PayPal account on it. In keeping with the internet's general theme nothing written here should be taken as Gospel: over three quarters of it is utter gibberish, and most of the forum's denizens haven't spoken to another human being face-to-face for decades. Don't worry your pretty little heads about it. Above all else, remember this: You don't have to stay forever. I will understand.

What baffles me is that these people have such a high profile & so their voice is heard & published.
I'm sure that there are folks in all camps that cringe when they open the paper or click on the news & hear some of the nonsense that is spewed forth by these "spokes people".
Cheers.

Andrew Wakefield, the doctor struck off the medical register for his discredited research that claimed to find a link between autism and the MMR vaccine, can add another honour to his list this Christmas: the inaugural Golden Duck award for lifetime achievement in quackery, set up by the science writer Simon Singh. Prince Charles came in in a close 2nd place:
Good Thinking launched its annual Golden Duck award for quackery in 2012, which seeks to recognize those who have supported or practised pseudoscience in the most ludicrous, dangerous, irrational or irresponsible manner. It was decided that the inaugural award should be for lifetime achievement in any field, and the winner is Andrew Wakefield.

Is The Currant Bun really that desperate for a sensational front page?
Or are they just bored of the "handbags at dawn" between Cameron & Fernandez?

Jim "Nick Nick" Davidson arrested for sexual abuse.

I'd like to take the opportunity to remind everyone about Britain's draconian libel laws; please be very careful about using the word "comedian".

OMFG. I just found an article that describes, to a "t," the cringe-worthy and infuriating speech mannerism that my dad's airheaded girlfriend employs. She has no excuse, though - she's not some decades-younger gold-digger - she's 65!

Apparently, this speech pattern has become quite common over here in the States (a co-worker does the same thing, and I can't stand to be in the same room with her for long, because of it). There's even a sound sample provided in the article, in case you're unfamiliar with the "phenomenon."

Do women in the UK and Europe speak this way, too?! :urff:

We don't call them "airheads" in England, we call them "bubbly". It seems to constitute a grossly over-enthusiastic, high-pitched squeaky voice, a liking for the colour pink when over 30, stuffed toys in the bedroom and eating cupcakes. They seem to have a monopoly on comfy office jobs despite being not very competent, and can be found en masse early on Friday night in the pub shrieking with overly-loud laughter and posing for pictures and later on in the night crying on the pub doorstep surrounded by similar types patting them on the shoulder.

Incidentally, I remember reading somewhere that "bubbly", when used in a lonely hearts ad, is generally a code-word for "fat".
