Audio Editing

Does exactly what it says on the tin. Some of the nonsense contained herein may be very loosely related to The Sisters of Mercy, but I wouldn't bet your PayPal account on it. In keeping with the internet's general theme nothing written here should be taken as Gospel: over three quarters of it is utter gibberish, and most of the forum's denizens haven't spoken to another human being face-to-face for decades. Don't worry your pretty little heads about it. Above all else, remember this: You don't have to stay forever. I will understand.

Evening techie dudes,

can anyone recommend a decent (ie freeware and simple to use  ) audio editor? I've recently, thanks to the mighty Pat (maybe I should just ask him) ripped the audio from some bootleg dvds. Thing is, the program saves the audio as one track, which usually then needs 'chopping' in order to get it on two disks.

Any ideas? Ta in advance 8)

Troozaluss Carprayshun  posted this sometime back in November 2004, I can't find the thread, but I copied and pasted it into a PM to myself (yep Big Si's mad mental  )

Since people seem to be asking regularly about various bits of freeware, here's a list I had handly (all freeware, not shareware). I haven't included spyware blockers/cleaners because I think all the good ones have been mentioned above.

Audacity is ok - but it is quite limited. Make sure you have your settings right. I'm also wonder how you did the audio-capture from the DVD. Was that recorded through an internal soundcard?

If you need a hand give me a shout through a PM.

No high-end technical jiggery pokery Karst, I've neither the time nor the inclination. The soundtracks journey is -

ancient video tape - Spiggys VHS to DVD conversion (god knows what he uses, though I suspect 'magick' - AVS Convertor 4 to extract the audio - Audacity to chop it (roughly) if required.

So what 'settings' would you recommend for audacity?

The cds I've produced so far (Leysin 93, Bremen 92) are certainly listenable, particularly given a) their origin on ropey VHS, and b) they aren't the best recordings ever in the first place.

When I can afford it, I'd certainly consider them weedable, but maybe someone :innocent:  would want a crack at cleaning them up a tad first. :?: 8)
