Anyone who collects Sisters vinyl ever notice that there
are inscriptions etched into the clear area around the center of the record?

Did Eldritch do this? :von:

My records are in storage but I remember things like "For Spiggy"
& "Jesus Loves The Sisters" and some of what looked like German
I think.

Anybody else notice this or am I just going mad.

known as run-out groove inscriptions (ROGI for short)

all documented on the Sisters Wiki Singles entries

They've been discussed on this forum before, but I can't find the thread

CNT 002 has "FOR SPIGGY" "RISE AND REVERBERATE" on the AA side (Adrenochrome); both sides have Bilbo Tape One.

Not Sisters specific, but these comments are as yer man said down to the acetate man. For instance I've got loads of "A PORKYS PRIME CUT" across a whole range of music.

I for one hoped for a hand-etched ROGI by Eldritch himself on my vinyls and not by an suspect "acetate man". :?

IIRC there was an article in Q many moons ago about Porky's Prime Cuts. As I recall, one of them (an Elvis Costello 7" maybe?) had the record company's A&R man's private phone number on it after Porky took a dislike to him. (Or something similar -- memory fails me.)

for a time when i bought a new vinyl, i'd inscribe my DJ name on the ROGI area and the date purchased, using a safety pin.

I'm sure on the Lucretia 12" it says

"More more more stupid guitars"

Mmmm. "Porky Prime" was the name of the guy who used to actually do the cutting. He did loads for the indie labels in the early 80s, and also did Led Zep 4 and a Monthy Python LP, as well as - presumably - innumerable others. These inscriptions used to originally be messages for one person involved in the pressing process to another, so it would be stuff like "more bass" or "watch out for side 2, the last track was a bitch to get right", or whatever. They eventually evolved into in-jokes, messages to the fans, or just cool/obscure/ridiculous sounding stuff.

It's not just Sisters-specific - to pull out a random example, Spacemen 3's "Playing With Fire" has "Write to (postcode) for free gift" on one side, and "Never gonna get out of this world alive" on the other.

Ah, the joys of vinyl.

I think.

"Im Westen nichts Neues" is an anti-war novel by Erich Maria Remarque.

"Leis' weht der Wind der Heimat zu, mein irisch Kind, wo weilest Du" is a quote from T.S. Eliot's "The Waste Land". But Eliot himself quoted Richard Wagner here, if I remember correctly.

Good god woman you barely have any of the area showing that they scratch the messages into. Pull out a bit more look into the shinny area.....smooth area....glossy area.

You'll have to hold it at an angle to notice, and experiment a bit. See where the red arrows are pointing here:

That's the part you want to look at.
