Think it's good for historical reference to get links in this thread too.

Perhaps copy the text into the thread too, so it won't get lost :?:

Thanks :notworthy:

Who the f**k is Joseph Yarmush & why is the c**t name under MY photo ?

If they'd asked I'd have let them use it but now I'm going to chop the f**ker's fingers off.

but here it's anyway and i'm also putting it on myspace :p gnak!

First row point of view

I attended the show. I was outside the Metropolis at 6pm and by 6:40 i was in, with a glass of vodk and cranberry juice in had, leaning against the fence
seperating ous fans from the stage. I had the Perfect Spot, right in the first
row, right before Andrew, having a good view and eye contact with Ben Christo
who was closer to my left than Chris Catalyst who was a lil more on the right
side of the stage.

The guitarists were on fire and the crowd answered with enthousiasm. Andrew was
also quoite in shape and sanged with all his guts; no doubt he's a good at what
he does.

For the frustrated disappointed fans; knowing well the band, efforts could have
been made to be in first rows ; we all know they use smoke machines. Sound was
good too and lights effects were amazing. As for the "goth" issue; i am so sorry
to declare that Andrew always stood clear out and far from the goth etiquette.
It's not because he was in black in his young time that he's goth. It was the
80's fashion trend, and it was called PUNK. And Eldritch always specified in
interviews that he wasn't goth ; why would he be in white suite in Dominion
videoclip and in white suite with a pink tie in Doctor Jeep ? He dumpted
Patricia in part 'cause she looked too goth.

Their music was declared "goth" by the media; never by the band itself. Take
that in consideration when you are frustrated at your heroes. [/b]

Goth

Well, let me preface this by saying that I'm about as preppy as they come, not a goth, and I don't really think that the Sisters are or have ever meaningfully been a "g**h" band.

That said.

You guys HAVE seen the cover of Floodland, right? And every bloody record comes in a black sleeve? At the very least, Andrew seems to have traded on the goth bunny angle for a while (hey, royalty checks cash the same way from Bunny Money).

So while I have no sympathy for the crushed velvet folks whining on this tour that Andrew isn't wearing a cape, or whatever else they may be whining about, it isn't that there aren't a few things in the back catalogue that fit the stereotype.

We know you aren't a goth, Von. We believe you. But that Floodland cover makes us all worry a little bit!

Not everything black is goth. :innocent:
AC/DC - Back in black : is that goth enough for you ?

Absolutely

Absolutely realize all that. But the moon over water thing, the dead white effect on his skin...etc... not even mentioning Patricia Morblackthanthou. I'm only suggesting that if he had been interested in avoiding the label he could have made an effort. Maybe a shiny orange wrapper for Under the Gun or something.

Floodland could have been blue. Or maybe had a bright shiny sun rather than a full moon. Or, you know, different lyrics on "Torch" (yeah, I know it wasn't supposed to be on the album).

Andrew was obviously going for an image. Maybe he missed it by a bit... but if the goth bunnies were women I'd say he was leading them on in 1988. Oh wait. Three or four of them are...

surely the whole "not goth" thing is an attempt to avoid being pigeon-holed with all the whitby-style modern goth bands? and indeed all the awful batcave bands that were around during the sisters early years.
the fact that they attracted a large goth following shouldn't mean they are labeled as such: NMA audiences in the 80's were heavily goth populated and they have never been seen as such. the goth bands who came after the sisters and emulated their style ensured that this tag would be a permanent albatross around the neck of a band who have more to offer than this restriction suggests. i'm sure that if WEA had been prepared to promote the band to a wider audience (or at all) then von would not have felt the need to try and shatter these misconceptions and get his music out to more people.

Can't take credit for writing any of that (only occasionally thinking it) (loudly). I believe did experience a moment of synchronicity over "They don't like Shriekback, so the hell with them".

However, I was referring to a much larger demographic. Unfortunately. :?

Well I didn't know even if I've always been a big fan… of their music. I didn't developped a cult thing about Eldritch, but I still have my original EPs of Sisters, bought in 1986-1987 for nearly $20 dollars each.

Now I know: if I have the chance to see Sisters again, I will be in the first rows. And now you know too…
