2006 Setlist analysis, re: why don't they play new songs?

NOTE: this message merely serves as filler 'till Andrius updates the tours.tsom.org site...

Barring the recent (and very welcome) upsurge in positive response from the American north east*, we have noticed a disturbing number of posts from folks who feel that the 2006 set list is lacking in innovation and/or set list change from show to show.

We hope to address this issue once and for all.

To wit: we have prepared a short analysis of the Sisters' setlists so far (http://www.yourfilelink.com/get.php?fid=45426 ; click 'download file'), with the notable exceptions of Monterrey, Orlando, and Atlanta (currently unavailable). Songs in bold + underline appear for the first time; songs in bold (no underline) re-appear after having been dropped; songs in italics have been moved up or down from the previous setlist; arrows indicate a song moves up or down in the following show.

A quick perusal of said file will reveal a decided fluidity to the set(s), which (wonder of wonders) is roughly comparable to tours from years past... If you don't believe us, feel free to dig out your old, battered copies of 'Life,' and have a gander at the lists from '83 to '85 (flawed though they may be for fine detail, you'll see where we are going). More recently, dig into the collective recollection of how the shows progressed during 'Tour Thing,' etc., and then assert that the 2006 tour is static...

The bottom line is this- a band cannot, for logistical reasons, play a completely different set each and every night. The Sisters have been, are, and will no doubt continue to shift their songs about and re-arrange what they play as different legs of the tour are reached, and/or as the mood strikes them (good news for Europe, as you have, by far, the best odds of hearing a new song or two... we expect someone will upload a video and/ or audio file when that happens ).

Besides which, as someone whom we are curently too lit to remember stated in an earlier thread, this whole "play different songs" issue wouldn't even be an issue, were it not for the advent of the internet and its rapid delivery of information.

Bottom line: the Sisters rock the fcuk out. Go see the show(s) and be damned well glad you did.

PS: We realise that most of you will probably be wondering why we are belaboring such an obvious point, but we have spoken to too many damned "fans" at shows from Nevada to Pennsylvania whose negative comments simply needed to be addressed. With extreme prejudice.

Nice work from the Chair. Well you've had Burn already - by the time they get to Europe they'll be playing Good Things.

We don't even know where to begin Ocean Moves... clearly, we need to sober up before formulating a response...!

With my usual luck, by the time they hit Sweden the setlist will probably have permutated into consisting of nothing but "Romeo Down", "Something Fast", "When You Don't See Me", and "Slept".

Last two gigs if I'm not mistaken. Very recently anyway.

You'll have to wait while they retrospectively clear the sample, James :von:

4 stormers there- better that than not going to see them, or worse: them not playing at all.

It seems that Mr Eldritch has given Chris and Ben a list of songs to learn. I suppose this should have been obvious to me, but only became apparent when I somehow found myself buying Messrs Catalyst and Christo a Black Russian in the venue's downstairs bar and got chatting to Chris. As others have said, he's a very approachable, down-to-earth lad from Hull. I joked that he'd have to play Body Electric in return for the drink. He said he didn't know it. He wasn't joking. That's when the penny dropped. They've been told which ones they need to know and have had their work cut out just getting those down I guess. I have to say they've done a damn fine job of it though. By the end of my 4 gigs I could pretty well recognise all the unreleased songs. And they sound rather groovy. :notworthy:

Haha, I met Chairman BOX in Philadelphia, too! And he comes across as much nicer in real life. :P

....And what about that recording you were doing? :innocent:

It seems most of the fans over here ARE hearing new songs, they're just not new to any crazy fanatic who downloads online. Or the European fans. :) The only thing different they could do would be a cover, but perhaps they're not doing that because most of the fans seem apathetic as is. The humor in any cover might be totally lost on most people, "goth" or not.

I don't know why one would complain about the lack of variety in the shows. After all, if you even glimpse into trading/weeding/leeching Sisters bootlegs, it's quite apparent that they never seemed to have done completely different sets on the same tour, or even in the last couple of years.

Well, when they go mugabe's way, their setlist won't be anything else than Never Land by the time they hit the UK

Anyway, Burn is about as good as a new song to me :notworthy:

Well said. Quiff Boy said it. Who else ? Can't remember.
Anyway : twas ever thus !
It's not the band's fault if we are so obsessed with the Sissies that we get high on boots and instant reviews. Nobody would complain about lack of variety if we just went to the gigs.

And :notworthy: to Obviousman : Burn, baby, Burn !

I last saw them at Arvika in 1998. Here's the setlist, with the songs played on the 2006 tour in bold:
  • First and Last and Always
  • Ribbons
  • Come Together
  • Train/Detonation Boulevard
  • Amphetamine Logic
  • War on Drugs
  • Giving Ground
  • (We Are the Same) Suzanne
  • On the Wire/Teachers/On the Wire
  • Will I Dream
  • Dominion/Mother Russia
  • Summer
  • Anaconda
  • Romeo Down
  • Flood II
  • Temple of Love
  • Comfortably Numb/Some Kind Of Stranger
  • This Corrosion
  • Something Fast
"Lucretia" and "Vision Thing" were played in 1991, when I saw them in Stockholm, leaving "Never Land" and "Slept" as the only "new" songs for me, having seen them play twice in the last 15 years. I understand the complaints. However, The Sisters are a nostalgia act and, as such, get away with playing the same songs over and over, with people like me shelling out €40 for a ticket. I'm as sure as ever I'll have a good time.
