(probably) easy tech help needed...

Okies..
My laptop has a x-black kind screen and whenever I turn the damn thing on it stretches the desktop to fit the screen.. .meaning that the writing on the icons looks like it would after a bottle of absinthe.. I can change this by going to my graphics options > panel fit > centre desktop option..
Only problem is, the fricking thing resets itself the next time I have to turn it on..
Anyone any idea how the heck I can save this setting??
Also, its the same for my windows and folders, I have a lot of stuff on my data partition and it helps if I can view my folders as details rather than icons.. fricking thing resets back to icons every time I turn off..
