just a quicky (mostly aimed at pib, who i suspect is actually the sisters historian....)

i recently aquired a boot called 'the unmarked door':

Live at the Melkweg - Amsterdam 02.06.1984
Sisters :

ANDREW ELDRITCH : Vocals
That Guitarist : Guitar
GARY MARX : Guitar
CRAIG ADAMS : Bass
DOC. AVALANCHE : Drums

but it just doesn't have the feel/sound of a live boot, not even crowd noise bleeding into the vocal mike, and no banter, at all, it's almost like a gig rehearsal.....

in fact, at a couple of points i'm sure i hear von saying 'set' or something like that, at the same time as the dr kicks in, almost like he's pressing the buttons...

and the guitars are terribly unbalanced, i can't see them playing a gig like that..... mmmmmmmmmm

anyone shed any light onto it?¿?¿?

oh, i also got this one as well:

Recorded from the mixing desk. Official live recordings from a mixing desk have audience noise put on later to give it more a live feelin.

The Ohm is recorded by someone in the crowd during the Heidelberg gig.

This boot sounds like it was recorded before the sound had been put through the mixing desk.

As I understand...
When a gig is recorded for possible release as a live CD, the vocals and each instrument are usually recorded on seperate tracks, before the sound is fed through the mixing desk.

This way, studio production effects can be added to touch up the sound of each instrument seperately.

The instruments and vocals are then mixed in the studio, such that the sound is optimal for home stereo listening.

The Melkweg gig was probably recorded in this way, but it never found its way to the studio. So the 'non-live' sound to this boot is probably because the mixing desk inputs were recorded, rather than the mixed output that is sent to the speakers.

A few other boots from around that time have a similar sound.
