"And then I heard that The Sisters Of Mercy were coming to Brazil so I had to get out of the country......Two egos the size of mine and Von's on the same continent? It could've caused a prison riot........"

Doesn't he have anything better to do ?
Or maybe he actually thinks he's funny.

why a prison riot and not just a riot?
Posted: 28 May 2006, 21:23
by RobF
Because there were a shedload of coordinated prison riots in Brazil, with 80+ deaths in the week of the Sissies gigs.

This joke is not funny, that's all. I don't care about Hussey, I just wish
he stopped making stupid jokes about his time in the Girls. That was more than 20 freaking years ago, for f**k sake !

I happen to think it is funny. And it is not as if he keeps bringing it up - other people do.

What, like this
It seems that my 'little' April 1st joke has fooled some of you. Others not. I mean, I'm so over Ikea.......
Anyway, my apolgies to anyone that was offended or inconvenienced or went out and spent £69 on tickets to see SOM on the strength of my hoax. I hope there's been a lesson learned....Save your money for a good band.......And just to clarify, this was all my doing and had nothing to do with Paul Morgan.
Cheers,
Wayne

Surprisingly, I think it's fair to let the man joke about a band that he gave a whole new dimension to.
Would you also be so pissed off if Craig Adams were to make a joke about the Expelaires? Or if Anne-Marie were to start reminiscing about Skeletal Family?

I don't know whether he gave them a new dimension or whether he helped tearing the band apart, and I'm not interested.
All I know is that he's just
one guy in a long list of ex-members, that I'm not a fan of his guitar playing, and that I find most of the songs he wrote of limited interest.
Hussey is obviously a nice guy but his jokes are lame. His April's fool was okay, but leaving it on the site for three days...

"A whole new dimension" is pretty strong. He did contribute the main riff to Temple, IIRC, so he deserves kudos for that.

Correct - TOL was released in in '83.
That scouse bloke joined in '84.

For someone with such a dislike of somone you do seem to have a strange obsession with the man Badlander. Hussey has never denied the extent of his career. The majority of which was spent writing and performing his own music. And he managed to collect a substantial fanbase doing that. So leave him do whatever he wants I'd say and don't pay too much attention at the occassional swipe at the past - not in the least his own.

Could you please tell me what makes you think so ? You got me really confused here.
I did say a couple of times that I didn't want Hussey back with the Girls, because I don't think his style would benefit the band as a whole. It's not my fault if his name is sometimes mentioned. I don't want Robert Fripp or Elton John either, and a bunch of other guys. Does that make me obsessive ?
Do we all have to be nostalgic for the 84-85 period ?

That was Messrs Gunn and Marx on Temple. But if you compare, for example, Fix with On The Wire, they're both great in their own ways, but they have a completely different feel. And the sound of Body And Soul seems very different to everything that came before it.
Maybe "a whole new dimension" was a bit too much, but for what it's worth, his addition gave the band some great tunes, with a new style.

Isn't Adams credited with ToL?
