Heartland

I was reading about Existentialism and the philosopher Karl Jaspers’ name kept popping up as an important philosopher in the existential school of thought; I had never heard about him or any of his ideas before, so I looked around for information on the net and all I could find of interest was this.

I gave it a quick once over and was greatly impressed. The man wrote with clarity and was coherent - unlike most philosophers who tend to philosophically masturbate their ego - and gave some interesting views on the history of philosophy and how it effects how we ponder questions and then answer them, as well as this themes of individual freedom seem to run through his work - which is always a big plus with me. I think his philosophy is heavily underrated.

I’ve been reading a lot of philosophy for the last couple of weeks, mainly my current two favourites: Nietzsche and Kierkegaard. Karl Jaspers has quickly, after just reading this one essay, become one of my favourite philosophers and is up there with N&K.

My questions are these. Have any of you heard of Karl Jaspers, if so, what are your opinions on his philosophy and why do you think nobody seems to talk about him and his philosophy?
