Prague. What a wonderful place.

Does exactly what it says on the tin. Some of the nonsense contained herein may be very loosely related to The Sisters of Mercy, but I wouldn't bet your PayPal account on it. In keeping with the internet's general theme nothing written here should be taken as Gospel: over three quarters of it is utter gibberish, and most of the forum's denizens haven't spoken to another human being face-to-face for decades. Don't worry your pretty little heads about it. Above all else, remember this: You don't have to stay forever. I will understand.

I've been in Prague for a while & my god is that place perfect.

Wore my heartland forum thing t-shirt so many times & totally forgot to get anyone to take a picture.

I'm considering moving there I like it that much.
Anyone else been? Thoughts on it?

Nope, but all being well we're gonna go over for a few days in August with the kids. Sounds good Alister, get moved mate, you can't live in Leeds all yer life (says he who thought exactly the same when he moved here in 1988 :? :innocent: )

Been there a bit over 10 years ago. Loved the place as well!
Went to a local bar (outside the touristic area) where you could get a pint so cheap that it was almost for free.
Played great music as well! Don't remember the name of the place though.

Anyway....Praha is great! :notworthy: You can see and almost smell history!

I've been to Prague twice (2001, 2004)
and Berlin twice (2001, 2004).
Fell in love with Berlin twice,
and didn't fall for Prague on either occasion.

Prague to me is a city that has suffered massively.
A city that was left to rot inside the Iron Curtain.
It has been given a lick of paint,
aload of european chain stores, plenty
of strip clubs for tourists, and is now
apparently a "wonderful place".
I think you might find some locals who
disagree with you on that.

Didn't do it for me, sorry.

only been there during winter (february) where the temperature was -9, and worse :urff:

i gather its very different in summer 8)

me and jo both loved the city. its a very beautiful place, and it was especially picturesque covered in 6 inches of snow.

very nice indeed.

having said that, i think i prefered budapest - and not just for the gig  the city is wonderful (a lot less stag-night oriented);) :notworthy:

Me and the mrs are off for a few days in Prague from a week on Sunday (9th)

Don't worry, we'll be back in time for "winter" ;)

Thanks for jogging my memory. We "planned" a trip to Prague a few months back and it seems the rents have totally forgotten to book it!

one of the best things about our trip to prague in -9 temperatures was the trip to the castle, and stopping off in small bars and cafes on the way (every couple of minutes actually!) for glasses of hot "glüwein" 8) :notworthy: :D

I was there about 3 weeks ago. Landed at 10pm, had a meeting from 8 the next morning, went straight to the airport after the meeting.

From the cable car type thing up to my section of the hotel it looked quite nice though.

I'm not being much help am I?

Many many times... Twice for The Sisters gig. Love that city. And there is that really great Czech Band - called XIII Stoleti - they sound similar to the Sisters but they sing in Czech - highly reccomended! :D Speaking of Eastern Europe - I would reccommend Cracow in Poland.

Love the place, it's my 2nd home, particularly as family and lot's of friends (have) lived there. Anything you need to know in particular?

Anyway for now, the best pub in the world - http://www.praguepubs.co.uk/pubs_details.php?id=55
http://www.czechdineout.com/lang/hospudka.php?uid=13771
http://www.klubpp.cz/plzenskyrestaurantandel/ 8) :notworthy: :D

(It's south of the castle, in the Andel district nr Smichov railway station, and they serve the best cuisine and unpasturised Pilsner Urquell :P (they even have a bowling alley downstairs :D ) and just round the corner from my favourite hotel - http://www.prague-hotels-guide.com/berlin.htm 8) :D

Another pub I fully recommend in the city centre - http://www.uprovaznice.cz/

And this restaurant near Wenceslas Square - http://www.upinkasu.cz/

Talking about Wenceslas Square, make sure you go for a 'Wenceslas sausage' from the kiosk in the early hours of the morning, as you can get a beer or a shot of Vodka/Absinthe/Slivovice/Becherovka with your bread and mustard too! (just watch out for the night ladies  , drug pushers and vagrants :urff: )

Anything else you need to know, then just ask! :D

A great czech band - http://www.trisestry.cz/

As well as their own stuff they've done cover versions of many popular songs but use their own czech lyrics - Should I Stay or Should I go and Golden Brown, are surreal :D
