To those who missed a Top Nite Out:

I went to this gig with an open mind and had fun, despite being on my own and feeling a bit out of place. Besides Chris Catalyst, Chris Gorman was supporting. I know the name (he's from Glasgow) but this was the first time actually I've heard him. He did an accoustic set on guitar and keyboards, which isn't really my cup of tea but he had a great voice. He did get more animated towards the end, playing a song about George W Bush that was also dedicated to "the c**t who stole my mixing desk - may he burn in hell forever."

Chris Catalyist was on next , playing stuff from his forthcoming album (due out end of this/start of next year) called "Champion The Underdog" unless he changes his mind about the titile. He also played "I Was Wrong" which had a sonewhat mixed response. I shamefully can't remember the titles of Chris' songs except "The One Who Wouldn't Change You", which can be downloaded from www.robochrist.co.uk. He also played a cover of A-ha's "Take On Me", which I could probably have lived without but was amused to hear. Other highlights were lots of banter between songs and lamenting the loss of his Superman pedometer he'd got from Burger King that afternoon and dropped onstage. When I say "stage" I mean the section of room in front of the fireplace! The venue used to be one of Glasgow's prestigious bars/tea rooms and still has that feel about it.

I'm not familiar at all with Ginger or the Wildhearts, but I liked what I heard. Ginger's set consisted of I presume Wildhearts songs mixed with some popular theme tunes (Cheers, Taxi & Pink Panther). He's also a bit of a dirty bugger and likes to insert his own rude lyrics to covers - makes me think of a mix between AC/DC, the Macc Lads & Half Man Half Biscuit if that's possible. Chris joined Ginger on stage for the last part of the set, dueting on, amongst other things, "Something Stupid".

And if anyone's wondering, I did have quite a lot of Magners tonight.
