Listerning to a live Sisters tape from '84. And It got me all nostalgic. It was great time to in your 'yoof' the late 1980's; Buying Melody Maker and Sounds to check the gig listings and the News to see when your fave band was going on tour - scouring the adverts to see when the new Nephilim single was due out. These where the days before t'Internet and 'forums'. Tuning into Radio One to sometimes hear Gary Davies play something 'alternative' in the middle of the afternoon! It was also a time when it felt like every week some one was playing 'live' either in your town or up the road; Ghost Dance, Play Dead, Getting the Fear, Balaam, Siouxsie, NMA, Rose of Avalanche, Salvation, March Violets, Chatshow, The m*****n. And there were 'goths' everywhere!! Not your dress wearing black lipstick misery-arse London professional goth types, but everyday goffs in black leather jackets with scraggy hair and a M.R t-shirt on and we all knew each other - it was like being in a big club!! It was f**king ace! Every town had a club with an 'alternative' night - we had Planet X in Liverpool and it was small dingy and damp - but you loved it 'cos they played the Sisters at a deafening level !

from 1984 (Body and Soul tour) to March 85 (FALAA) the Sisters played Liverpool 3 times, The band went to the System club after the show and the DJ played Walk Away as Eldritch walked down onto the dance floor - The Sisters where in OUR club. You only get that feeling of shock and awe when your young.

I loved the 80's- Because to me it wasn't about frilly shirts , Wham ! Live Aid and embarrasing New Romantics and British Heavy metal - It was about Goth music. The forgotten music genre that is never featured in those retrospective shows you see on t.v - but will forever form part of the musical soundtrack to my teenage years. And I'm sure I'm not alone.

Shame I know I won’t have memories like that when I’m older; all the current bands are s**t and are probably to busy getting manicures to go into an obscure dingy club. Feck nostalgia.

Walking past the Famous Glasgow Apollo at 9pm on a Tuesday after evening class at the art school and realising Man were playing their farewell tour. Got in half price because the support had been on and Man had started.
Hawkwind on a Friday night with a well tanked up and spaced out Glasgow audience baying for blood.
Greenslade at the City Halls on a beautiful summer night with sunshine streaming through the stained glass windows.
The Sensational Alex Harvey (and his Band) having the entire full to bursting, stadium of Parkhead (The Holy Ground, once more, fine girl ye arr) in the palm of his hand. And we still had The Who to follow!

I went there a few times on one of my very few trips to JHB. Must've been '94. Amazing club. Almost as good as the Playground in CT.

....And one of the finest bits about going to gigs in the 80's was that you didn't have to get up for work the next day,cus everyone was on the dole.God bless Thatch.

I was at the White Horse towards the end of April '94, so very probable I was hanging out with a bunch of skateboarders.

Partying and the Playground may be a bit tough as it closed in '95 and has since become a parking lot. These days we'd have to go to Evol, although it's taken a turn for the worse recently.

Yeah knew the ring leader of the skateboarders although they kinda ended on that other dancing floor. The worlds split three ways and met together as they always do.

Many things take a change. Thank you We should check it out just for fun. Although (oops but to then) nothing could beat downtown JHB and places like Alice D (as known before I left and had had many a name)...wooh
One day we should be partying at that underground club that still has to be made, the design is there, just the financing and move .... oh dreams, the new nostalgia.

Yeah, what did happen to it? I remember it being like that; people more interested in getting pi$$ed up and having a good time than moping and posing in corners (although there was always a bit of moping and posing involved...)
