Granted, but the way England played was a transformation, there was an understanding between the player, hells bells, even Crouch looked decent , they seemed to play as a team rather than a collective of egos, can dropping Mr Posh Spice have been the catalyst for the performance?

I agree, England did play more as a team, especially at the back (probably down to the new captain). I'm pretty certain that Becks was dropped more because of his ego/influence over the players/manager in the dressing room rather than his ability on the pitch. Granted, he's not the player he was a couple of years ago but I wouldn't say England are a better team with Gerrard on the right instead Becks.

I would think it's obvious to most fans that the future lies with two fast wingers, Richardson on the left, Lennon down the right with Hargreaves in the middle (assuming he keeps his form). The decision McClaren needs to make is who to drop, Gerrard or Lampard? Unfortunately I think he'll keep taking the easy option with Gerrard on the right and Lennon on the bench..or heaven forbid..all five across the middle and Rooney on his own up front...and we know what happens then

I would say it's more part of our Media's attitude and their pathetic obsession with singling out one individual for the role of hero/scapegoat, doesn't matter which sport it is...Football>Rooney, Cricket>Flintoff, Rugby>Wilkinson. Just look at how overhyped the situation was before the WC, that was them milking it purely to boost sales/viewer ratings.
