Trouble trouble trouble... - a personal announcement

Yesterday my friend tried to install a DVD writer to my PC. Without success. After unsuccessful attempts to update Windows XP I lost Norton antivirus program. Tried to install it again - no success
Since my PC at home isn't protected now, I don't visit the Internet at home (no mail accounts, no forums etc). For those who need to send me a message (weeding requests, for example) and know my e-mail account, please prefer an e-mail (don't have time for checking HL at work every day). These ones who need to contact me and do know my name but not my mail address - it's my first name dot surname at gmail dot com (it's an open forum and to avoid more spam mails I will not say more).
These ones who don't know neither my mail account nor name but who send me a PM, sorry, please be patient - maybe it takes more time to reply you.
Thank you.

After my hardisc crashed, I switched to Ubuntu. I don´t actually need a heck of virus protection here.. Why don´t you...?

Same here. Norton just clogs up your system.
AVG is very good and rather light on your CPU.
IZ.

I had a crappy windows machine - now I'm running a very stable and secure Fedora Core 5 machine. Much better. I've heard good things about Ubuntu too.

Well, I´m fresh with the and have a number of problems I couldn´t fix yet. cups won´t play with my old Kyocera Laserprinter. Can´t print.
Flash player doesn´t really work, hardly gives any sound. Sometimes it does, most times it doesn´t. I blame it on the Gnome, But I couldn´t be arsed to change to Kubuntu or Xubuntu now. I´m a bit fed up with installing and fiddling around on the computer at the moment..
