As you know, My knowledge of computers is virtually nil, so any helpful advice would be appreiceated.
My pc went tits up last week, my brother in law got it working again, however after turning it off, I discovered the next day that it would not start up. The screen would show the microsoft xp pro loading screen, then a black screen would appear with a rectangle in the middle and the words 'lsass.exe' on it with a 'clicky' box marked 'ok', whenever you clicked the 'ok' box, the pc would restart itself and the whole process would happen again.
I've had the hard-drive blanked twice, but it still appears after re-booting the bloody thing. :?
I've tried norton and spyware stormer but they are'nt doing anything to remove it, HELP!!!!

I had this problem with the re-starting thing (went round in circles) and it was my graphic card that had gone all wonky when I put in some more ram.

Re-install Windows and start again?

Though I am no expert and I only know what I know through trial and error

Sounds like the Sasser Virus (or one of it's variants)  Whilst 'lsass.exe' is a windows process, there were a couple of viruses that used to gain access on the back of it...so to speak.

You'll need to boot up into 'Safe Mode'...keep pressing F8 whilst the pc boots (or failing that, boot up from the original Windows CD) to stop the rebooting loop that you're currently in then there's a couple of MS updates that you'll need. Then there's a removal tool for the virus. You'll should find them here http://www.microsoft.com/security/incident/sasser.mspx

There's also the MS RPC update that you might need http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/deta ... laylang=en

There's some more info on it all here http://ask-leo.com/what_are_lsass_lsass ... _i_am.html

Keep your machine up to date with MS patches and virus/firewall updates, which should help in the future. Best of luck
