Introducing Musik ...

... to friends. Killer innit? They accept your shiny silver things and smile politely and make polite noises. And then file them away unplayed.
As you do their gifts.
Sometimes it's ok. I'm forever indebted to the guys who turned me onto Rrrrrrrrrrstein (â„¢ Berlin Baby) or rekindled my faith in David Sylvian and early Genesis.
As for those who've never acknowledged the gift yet still publicly proclaim the album as manna from Heaven just seems very un-polite.
Maybe it's just me.

Maybe it is.
I had a great discovery recently in the form of Yat-kha, a Siberian folk-punk throat-singing band which was introduced to me by our very own smiscandlon. I duly returned the favour by turning him on to Laibach.
Also been introduced to a few champion acts by our esteemed Mr. Ray - Cabaret Voltaire, Clock DVA, Foetus side-projects, Leonard Cohen and Lou Reed... well, I was familiar with all of them before, but it's always great to have CD's copied for you, IMO.
Infinitely preferable to my teenage years, where nobody I knew shared even remotely the same musical tastes as me. I have HL to thank for this sea-change

I do feel awful sometimes when someone gives me something and says 'Listen to this it's fantastic' and I invariably think it's a pile of rhino sh*te
You feel forced to say 'Oh yeah that was great'
praying they don't want a blow by blow account of why track 3 moved you to tears
That's why I don't tend to send unsolicited material, although I do think Dave got a barrage of sh*te on the last Jocko Homo DVD I sent him....

Try not to take it personally old bean. Sometimes people just forget; no malice aforethought.

I just tell people when they give me crap CD's, albeit with all good intentions from their side.
They also know beforehand I am not one to tell them 'oh yeah, that was rather nice' when it isn't.
Not in music.
OTOH, I never EVER give people CDs for their burfdis or xMAS or something that they didn't ask in the first place.
What I DO give are vouchers or coupons for 25 euro in Free Record Shop. Then they can buy whatever they want, but I give the message it'd better be music-oriented

I guess I'm with the Queen of the Iceni on this one. One of the delights of Heartland is being introduced to acts I may never have come across otherwise - either directly or even just picking up on groups mentioned in 'Currently Listening To...'
If someone's a proper mate then no umbrage should be taken at you (or them) saying "Sorry old bean, just not my cup of Earl Grey".

And bonus points for use of the word 'umbrage'.

My wonderful wife being of Irish decent, has somehow gotten me into some of their 'folk scene' and I must say, I have had the honour to see in concert both The Fureys and also The Dubliners!
I know it sounds daft but dont laugh, download 'steal away' by the fureys or perhaps 'the fields of athen rye' by the dubliners and once you've stopped crying through utter emotion, you'll understand what i mean.

I swap CDs with friends all the time. We always copy albums for each other. Mostly they get listened to once or twice and then get left, but because of the sheer amount of music that circulates around my social group everyone always picks up something they like.

Aye sometimes having too much music can cloud the issue, especially when life gets in the way

I've seen / heard them once (in the biginning of the last year, I suppose) in a local pub here.
