If you're on broadband you've got an "always on" connection, yes? When does the "dial-up" dialogue box come up - when you open your browser? If so then you need to change the settings on your browser so it doesn't try to open a dial-up dialogue.

Broadband is "always on" but not "always authenticated". "Dialling up" in the case of broadband simply means logging into their system so that you can get something useful from the connection. It's just a confusing continuation of old modem terminology as a metaphor :urff:

basic terms for ya big fella

ya know that broadband is always on!...so when ever you click on yer Internet Explorer 6 or Mozilla Firefox icon to browse the web the default page that you set should eventually open (in my case it's Yahoo...you can choose what ever you wish)

if your dial-up modem starts then yep...it needs a kickin!...or disable it...right click > properties or tools > options...

one of the two way will eventually find a tab to disable the damn modem...

other way is to click on Start > control Panel > then locate the icon for Internet Options...double click and open the tab Connections...remove the ones that you don't use anymore...

PC assistance from only 1 CD-R per month...

So that the Premium Rate Service Scammers that have managed to get their dodgy software on your PC via a 'Trojan Horse' Software Download can use your old dial up modem as a connection over your landline to dial up their 50pence per minute service without you knowing until you get your next phone bill?!
