DVD Authoring Software

Does exactly what it says on the tin. Some of the nonsense contained herein may be very loosely related to The Sisters of Mercy, but I wouldn't bet your PayPal account on it. In keeping with the internet's general theme nothing written here should be taken as Gospel: over three quarters of it is utter gibberish, and most of the forum's denizens haven't spoken to another human being face-to-face for decades. Can anyone recommend some software that I can use to author DVDs that will also convert video files in the DVD format and burn them?

I use Roxio's EasyMedia Creator to grab DVD files and convert to MPEG. You can also use it to author DVDs but it seems pretty limited in this respect (granted, I've not read the manual...:innocent:)
Also like Pinnacle's Studio10 application to play with the MPEGs, add in groovy titles, soundtracks and such and then reauthor the DVDs.
DVD Decrypter will crack the encryption rip the DVDs to your hard drive, you can then use Roxio's ReCode to convert to MPEG4 format if you want to play them on a portable wossname.

i use nero 7 but have criticals problem with it since a long time now
so waiting for the new one.

I'm more talking about getting videos that I've saved from my video camera onto a DVD. At the moment I use DVD Santa and it's very dodgy.

What format does your video camera record in? If you want a good application to create DVDs, then I would go with Pinnacle Studio - lovely interface, very easy. If the camera record in mpeg then you can bring them straight in to Pinnacle and play around with them. The software also lets you create movies as mpegs or avis, or output to VCR if that's your bag.

I think that Pinnacle will bring in WMV files with no problem - if you have a snippet that you can email over (just a couple of seconds) then I'll check it out.
