Cue carnage across the country. I would not want to be in the forces out there right now.

Ironic that the man the USA installed as a puppet leader who then gave them the finger and was 'responsible for owning weapons of mass destruction' is being given the death sentance 48 hours before the US mid-term elections. Not that the USA would orchestrate something like that of course, that would be just unethicial wouldn't it..hmmmmmmm.
But then again, the man was a bit of a git and hangings 'to good for 'em' , I won't be losing any sleep over his demise.

Oh and Everton lost to some cottaging Cockney's..not a good weekend for me so far. Hurumph

It seems you have a point there.. I don´t really believe it, but I have to admit it has a weird smell to it.Ramone wrote: Not that the USA would orchestrate something like that of course, that would be just unethicial wouldn't it..hmmmmmmm.

A State which implements capital punishment has no right punishing its people for murder, and if it does, let it be known as a hypocrite.
I utterly abhor the death penalty, even for someone like Saddam.

Expected this to happen, without him around there'll be nobody left not (religiously) fundamentalist the Iraqis have faith in I think, so nothing left to loose. That is not a good thing, but what other sentence could they give but capital punishment?

You think life sentence in a maximum security prison isn't enough ?!

Probably right. For the simple reason that the current clashes have nothing to do with him anymore. There are others fighting for control over the country.Dark wrote:This isn't going to work.

Seconded, sorry Z, I don't agree with the death penalty either. If it was a choice between the rest of my life in prison or a quick death, I'd go for death. I wouldn't be the only one. So, rather than give him a quick escape, just lock him up.Badlander wrote:Obviousman wrote:That is not a good thing, but what other sentence could they give but capital punishment?

It will be riots in Iraq - and around the world from his supporters. The reason Saddam was put on trial in Iraq was to ensure he would be executed. There will be those who will use this as an excuse to commit terror.
I've got News 24 on now, UK Minister Margaret Beckett could hardly contain her delight at the outcome. William Hague, former Tory leader was more then delighted - at the sentence more than the virdict it would seem.
Saddam got his way, he will become a Martyr although he wanted the firing squad.

Exactly, the death penalty has no place in society. Look at British cases such as Hanratty, the Birmingham Six or the Guildford Four. 'Mistakes' cannot be corrected later. Hanratty was murdered by the state due to false evidence. The other cases had flawed evidence, those involved were guilty of being Irish only. Gerald Conlon lost his father in prison, might be still alive if the British hasn't imprisoned him. Had the dealth penalty still been around in the 1970s, these innocent people would have been murdered by the state.nick the stripper wrote:A State which implements capital punishment has no right punishing its people for murder, and if it does, let it be known as a hypocrite.

Obviously there are many more cases of equal abhorence that deserve comment but this isn't a forum on the so-called British justice system.

Bad taste alert - if he said he was well hung or he wished he was well hung...Hom_Corleone wrote:Well said that man.RetroGoth wrote: Saddam got his way, he will become a Martyr although he wanted the firing squad.

I understand you guys, I'm very much against death penalty as well. As the matter of fact, there's little I oppose more to than that, but what I meant was:

I think they should give him a season ticket at Newcastle United and make him suffer a slow agonising death for all eternity.

Who said he had goolies? Saddam was a glorified bully who doesn't have a grip on reality. A comment made on News 24 earlier suggested he didn't have a grip on reality - the nearest thing the BBC could get away with instead of a "f**king nutter".James Blast wrote:I think they should cut his goolies off...
That might be a bit too creul. What about a season ticket for Tranmere Rovers?Ramone wrote:I think they should give him a season ticket at Newcastle United and make him suffer a slow agonising death for all eternity.
