The Casino Royale topic got me thinking this would make be a good poll.

(I can see George Lazenby running away with it...)

For me, its the one & only Roger Moore. :notworthy:

To my mind, Pierce Brosnan looks most like Fleming's descriptions of Commander Bond. And of course (without having seen the new one) in terms of acting talent in general sh!ts all over the others.

However the winner has to be Sean Connery, at least partly for being the original Bond. The six "canonical" Bond films starring Connery are probably better as films in general than the others, or at least more "iconic".

Roger Moore does have a place in my heart as the first Bond I saw (Live And Let Die) and for the more whimsical, almost comedic way he played the part.

Timothy Dalton and George Lazenby: whoever cast these men as Bond deserve shooting. I'll say no more.

And I've not seen the new Casino Royale yet, so I'll reserve judgment on Daniel Craig.

I'll eschew the traditional "Scottish position" on this one, and go for Pierce Brosnan - the best all-rounder in my opinion, and I enjoyed all the Brosnan movies (even as I type this, I feel an urge to go and watch Goldeneye).

Connery was the iconic original, Moore was fun (big fan of The Saint and The Persuaders here!), Lazenby I actually think is highly under-rated (OHMSS was actually a pretty decent movie), Dalton was, erm, OK.

Mista Moore rules!!!
(he was the first Bond I've seen on the big screen... either in Octopussy or in A View to a Kill!)

The rest of 'm all did good jobs, but Roger Moore will always be the 007 when I close my eyes...

...except that Dalton fella. He didn't have the magic and was by far the worst Bond.

Sean Connery.
Roger Moore was already too old when he first put on James' clothes (47), and by the early 80s he was looking like grandpa Bond.
Pierce Brosnan was very good in a classical kind of way, but his last Bond movie sucked big time.
George Lazenby was hardly noticeable. And James getting married ? Pfff...
I've also heard the guy was such a c**t, Diana Rigg would eat garlic before every scene just to p*ss him off.
And about Timothy Dalton... License to kill wasn't bad, but it was in no way a Bond movie. Just some decent action movie. And The Living Daylights was pure pish.

Normally I'd go for "Mishter Bohnnnd" also, but this time decided to stick me neck out and say Lazenby. I think it's a shame he wasn't given a decent crack at the role. By the time he took over, the movies had gone well into overblown silliness and his one was a step back to a more basic style which maybe didn't chime with expectations at the time. With the benefit of hindsight, and viewed in isolation, it's a pretty damn fine movie. Not as gritty as "Russia" but not as cheesy as "Live Twice".

So what if he's a personality-free zone, Bond was supposed to be a pretty soulless dispassionate killer (who was also capable of switching on the emotions - but only when required by the job) and Lazenby fits the bill pretty well there. Not a great actor perhaps, but a good Bond nonetheless.

The early Moore's were good, but his part will be forever degraded by his later stuff. Connery is the definitive, no doubt, but I think Lazenby has the edge for portraying the essential character. For similar reasons I like Dalton but dislike Brosnan.

I think the new guy will do well if given a decent run of movies.

When I first saw Pierce Brosnan as Remington Steele, I thought he would make a perfect James Bond. Unfortunately the films were rather poor, lacking that special James Bond flavour IMO.. He would have deserved better storiybooks.

Roger Moore, most indubitably. For such an unbelievably camp franchise, he was the best man for the job. Anyone who plays the 007 role and tries to do it seriously misses the point.
As for "Sir" Sean..if he's such a good actor, why can he only do one accent??

I'm not really a "bond fan" but sometimes it's nice to watch one of the older movies (with that iron-tooth guy).

I've voted for mr. moore 8)

Roger Moore, by a country mile.

From The Man With The Golden Gun, in relation to Scaramanga's third nipple...

Fascinating anatomical tit bit, but perhaps the most useless piece of information I've heard, unless the Bottom's Up is a strip club, and Scaramanga's performing.

IMO Sean Connery is the best actor but for the James Bond role I prefer Roger Moore. :D

i like Brosnan cause his Bond-movies are the most mind-numbing. i have most fun when forced to watch those, provided i'm adequately intoxicated. Then it's fun to start a political rant. Last time this happened, and actually it's obviously only happened once but i'll make sweeping conclusions about that anyway, the poor friend of mine watching it with my wife and i asked her 'is he always like this when you watch these kinds of movies with him?' (but at least he was sympathetic to my cause and ended up agreeing with most of my points)

I actually quite like the Dalton myself. I'm not sure how to scale the others, but I'm putting Moore at rock bottom just because the films are painfully silly on top of being formulaic. One or the other I can cope with, but that's just too much. I'm in with the Lazenby=underrated crowd, but the simple fact is that he wasn't in The Living Daylights, and that's that.

I've just lost all chance at credibility and recognition, right?
