bands, albums, books etc... that are underrated

Sorry I was inspired by a thread on bm.co.uk (though they were talking about bm bands).

I have always thought that The Associates were always a bit underrated, I love their "Fourth Drawer Down" album to pieces. I think for it's time it was quite experimental (correct me if you think I'm wrong).

"Foucault's Pendulum" by Umberto Eco - This book is fantastic and everyone should read it, though as far as I can tell it has never has been that well known (apart from by us on here) - again correct me if I'm wrong. For example, it doesn't appear in the BBC top 100 reads, but the Jacqueline Wilson kiddies books do

Can't think of anything more right now, but you never know.

Underrated ?

Motörhead.

I just don't understand why Lemmy doesn't get as much credit as the likes of Mick Jagger and Keith Richards, Bono, David Bowie, Lou Reed, etc.
The t-shirts are trendy but the albums just don't sell.
C'mon, the bastard is part of rock'n'roll history, he's a living legend for chrissake !

Oh and on second thought I see perfectly well why Lemmy doesn't get the respect he so deserves : he truly is rock'n'roll to the bone, while all the others are or have become... respectable.

And while we're on the subject - is it just me or does anybody else get extremely pissed off at the sight of young girls wearing Ramones t-shirts? I keep seeing them in town.
'Have you actually ever heard of them love?'

'No - I'm just a vaccuous fashion clothes horse'

'Right - thought so.'

Anyway, rant over...Under-rated?

The fantastic Snuff album Snuffsaidbutgorblimeyguvstonemeifhedidntthrowawobblerchachachachachachachachachachachayouregoinghomeinacosmicambience A modern classic if ever there was one. :notworthy:

Ghost Dance... I really cannot understand why there was next to no information about them before the official website was put up. They were just a class band.

And furthermore, The Trashmen.. a better rock band than The Rolling Stones could ever be.

This is extremely irritating, even though I'm weak and I do tend to be more forgiving when the girl is pretty.

But when were you before the band split ?

Probably swimming around in their parent's private bits.

It's quite astonishing that Ramones (and in particular Ramones) t-shirts are something of a must have fashion accessory these days.

Katatonia, without any doubt. Never heard such a great band that could've dominated
various top 30s next to Tool, Within Temptation and other stuff...

In the same vein: Tiamat and The Gathering.

I'm wearing a Ramones t-shirt

Though a friend had a fairly hard-to-come-by Ramones wall clock, and his daughter (Ramones tee and all) wanted it. He said he'd give her it.. if she could name him 10 Ramones songs.

She got about 3.

And Shriekback, obviously. Seems most people not on here - even those with a bit of knowledge when it comes to music - have never ever heard about them and yet everyone seems to think they made gorgeous music  :notworthy:

The Tenant, he waiiiiiitsssssss.......

Oh and "Burning Down" still does funny things to me, 20 years later. One of my top ten songs ever.

I absolutely agree with IZ on the Gathering. Never understood why they didnt get bigger than that. And I worked for their record company. Anneke's voice is one of the most beautiful.
