Ok, I have a shortcut on my desktop to my second hard drive, which is where I store all my music and it has worked very well for this until now. Yesterday I clicked onto the shortcut and it said that it could not be found even though the HD was switched on. I can still access it through "My computer" but it's a pain in the bum.
Also, when I go on to Soulseek (also as of yesterday) it works for about two minutes and then the screen disappears, and the little Soulseek symbol vanishes from the bottom right hand corner.
Do you think the two are connected? Bit of a coincidence really isn't it.
Please help me I can't live without Soulseek!

Perhaps you could try just making a new shortcut Don't know if it'll solve it, but seems to me that's the easiest - and most probable - solution...
Don't have a clue about soulseek, though my way out would be reinstalling it as well

Yup.
Right-click on a blank part of the desktop, go New, then Shortcut. No need to browse, just type E:\ or F:\ or whatever the drive letter is, then Next, give it a name, and Finish.

If I told them once, I told them a hundred times to put 'Spinal Tap' first and 'Puppet Show' last.

Argh I don't think I want to do this
blinking 'eck
(the new shortcut worked though thanks Zeno!
My transfers stays in "Initializing" or Soulseek works okay during the first minutes and then seems to freeze.
You have probably installed the Windows XP Service Pack 2 or your computer came bundled with this service pack.
Service Pack 2 contains a number of bug fixes and new features.
One of those new "feature" is a capping on the number of concurrent half-open TCP connections. Windows XP SP2 is severely the number of ongoing connections you can make to the Internet in a given laps of time (maximum 10 half-open TCP connections). SoulSeek, like any P2P software, rely heavily on ongoing connections to connect to the SoulSeek Distributed Network and to initiate File transfers. The software will seems to "hang" while it's actually Windows XP delaying the connection.
You can check for this by looking into your Event Viewer in the Administrative Tools of your Windows XP Control Panel.
The bad news is that this capping setting CANNOT be changed. Microsoft just didn't provide any registry entries not configuration file to do this.
To restore pre-SP2 behavior (= no limit), you must patch a system file. PLEASE only go further with this procedure if you feel confident you can succeed AND if you have backups of your worthy files in case your Windows XP doesn't want to boot anymore. We cannot be held responsible if anything goes wrong, you have been warned. At your own risks.
Visit this website, read everything carefully and then proceed. You need to restart your computer after the procedure.

I think that's mostly rubbish. Always used Soulseek on my XP-SP2 machine without any problems... (actually it's still the only thing I go back to my PC for, Solarseek is good but not as good as the real thing )
Glad the new shortcut worked

Yeah I haven't installed any windows updates recently (there haven't been any) so why does it stop working all of a sudden. I thought I had been clever by poking around and I found something that says if you have problems with a program that worked on a previous version of windows then you can change it back..............Obviousman wrote:I think that's mostly rubbish. oooh what about a system restore?

I even did, so it really can't be the problem. Look out when they ask you to install the new MSIE, it's completely worthlessBrideoffrankenstein wrote: Yeah I haven't installed any windows updates recently (there haven't been any) so why does it stop working all of a sudden.
System restore is a bit drastic perhaps? I'd really just go uninstall Soulseek (configuration thingy>programs) and then download a fresh example, install that one and all should be working again...
