Hey Now, I know most of you think I'm a douchebag - and I have to agree, I am, most of the time. But this one time I need a bit of help and advice.

I'm off to Barcelona on Wednesday morning for a couple of days - and no one in my party has any idea of what do or where to go beyond the Nou Camp !!

Does anyone have any advice on places to eat, drink, go..hang out..ANYWHERE!!!? I'm staying on Las Ramblas, and that's about as much I know!

I'd be very grateful of any help, and promise to stop being such a nuisance from now on

Well there's a start! That's where I stayed, it was tops.

There's an absinthe bar in the Gothic Quarter, I never saw it when I was there (only for 3 days), but according to "James Ray" it exists so just follow the elegantly wasted sorts and you should find it.

The gothic quarter in general is lovely. There is a Big Fuckoff Church there, can't remember what it's called but you'll find it no problem. It's a big old Northern European looking stucture built around a courtyard that houses plam trees. And very noisy geese!

La Sagrada Familia, you have to. Go right up to the top, don't be a chicken like my mum and whine about the claustrophobic spiral staircases...

Any other Gaudi place you can manage to squeeze in.

indeed, both churches are fantastic. those cloisters are incredible!
the olympic stadium isn't that far, either. and there's a beach.

The apartment building designed by Gaudi (not the skeletony one - which is excellent too but no pics) is fantastic - go right up to the roof.

I am now aware that showing other people yer holiday snaps is a tad tiresome....if you go here there some of a big bronzey fish and other delights. We're off again to meet up with our mate Pedro - hanging around with locals means to get to see the 'hidden treasures'

And although it sounds naff, if the Magic Fountains' are doing their stuff....GO, they're fookin ace

And if your a vegetarian - don't go far from the main hustle and bustle, once you wander off the beaten track and go outwards, it's hard to find anything that didn't moo, bleat or cluck! Drink PLENTY of mahitos and you'll not go far wrong

Wow, thanks guys n' gals, up to this point it was going to be

1. One huge empty football Stadium

2. Hard Rock cafe

3. a Tapas meal

And judging by the people I'm going with, trying to find pubs with the pre fix of O' Something or others genuine Irish Bar filled with plastic and wooden bits and bobs from Ireland nailed to the walls...urgh Why people go to the trouble of going abroad and then insist on finding a pub,reading a tabloid and watching Eastenders in it is beyond me. Me I want culture and plenty of it.. female preferably.

May sound naff...but buy a day ticket for the touristy buses. You can hop on and off at will and they stop/drive past all the acey bits.

And there are some fab record shops but don't ask me where, we stumbled upon them one afternoon (that'd be the mahitos again.

Oh and just off Las Ramblas down a side street, it opens up into a huge courtyard with various cheap foody places. And the umbrella shop's fun

And apparently the cable car that goes out over the sea is fun....but to be dangled from a great height on a bit of fuse wire is NOT what I do!

Sounds unexciting but it was a great afternoon...but then I've never been to a big stadium so I suppose I just got giddy at the size of it all.

We once drove from Chicago to Green Bay just to buy a 'cheesehead' and go on a trip around Lambeau Field stadium...bu the last trip had just set off and they wouldn't let us join! I mean, it's not as though we'd just popped along, Manc to NY, NY to Chicago, 200/300 miles drive to Green Bay...grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

Have a top time in Barcelona, Mr. Ramone. I'll go there on 13th march for a couple of days. Anyone else there? Or maybe some local Heartlanders who would like to show a swiss boy around and have some fun...?

We tried damn hard to find that absinthe bar and failed. Apparently it's further down La Rambla near the sea, but I've no idea what it's called. Ramone, do let us know if you find it. I'm sure you'll have a great time looking!

Found this for you lot..Absinthe makes the heart grow fonder!!

If you are looking for the most authentic place to drink absinthe then look no further than in the Barrio Rival and the Marsella Bar on San Pau. The interior has a 19th Century design with faded mirrored bar and hanging chandeliers. Miro, Picasso and Hemingway have all been rumored to have hung out here drinking. Order a glass from the bar for 3.50€ and they will bring you a brandy snifter full of potent absinthe, a sugar cube and a spoon. The best way is to place the sugar into the drink to get it wet and then light it on fire for thirty seconds.

After the sugar starts to break down mix it into the Absinthe until it dissolves. You should also have a small bottle of water from the bar to use to dilute the potency. One glass of this is probably enough to sample for the first time user. I warn you it is strong and will have you feeling very good. Enjoy!
