The Mumbles have recently made the cross over to Acoustica Beatcraft. After an evening spent fiddling around with the program (and somehow creating a pretty good drum pattern for Burn) I think it's the best thing for us at the moment, extremely easy to use, makes some nice sounds, wish I'd found it earlier.

When you start a new "project" you can select to use preset drum kits (with effects all in place) or "design your own."

Is there any sites where I can download some extra preset drum kits? I know there's a link on Beatcraft to extra kits but you have to pay...
I've used the Brush Kit and the Rock/Blues Kit a few times now, don't want the stuff to sound too samey...

I just got the program.

Its spiggin excellent. It says I have only 4 days left and I'm going to have to purchase it!
Grr, I don't have 40 US Dollars to spend on a silly program that will probably screw up or delete itself.

But we have had some good times together.

I actually do have advice on this one.

Use the "FX" tab. I tried to get a snare that sounded like Rosetta's Adrenaline. Basically I used 909 snare 7 (don't quote me on one that), then added the compressor for a bit more punch, the reverb for obvious reason and used the graphic EQ to get the apprppriate tinny sound.

Basically. using the effects you can have an infinate amount of different drum sounds.

Use the flanger on the ride symbols for a space age sound

Also,

I managed to record my bass using my MP3 player, and transfered it to the PC. I then cut it down to just one repitition of the riff (so I could repeat it artificially) and added it as a sample.

I can now treat a bass riff as a sample on the drum kit and add it to the sequencer. Repeating it as often as it needs to.

What a brilliant program. Nice and simple to use

I think the best thing to do with new kits is to just find a nice zip file of drum sounds in wave format and load them up over your kit. The korg x5 drum pack from http://www.modarchive.com/waveworld/ works wonders for me.

And a proggie you really like and costs a mere 40 dollars... I would not hesitate.

I liked Cubase a lot and bought it as well, and it has a lot of satisfaction when you actually OWN the program instead of using the shareware/freeware/hacked version.

BTW, Acoustica is around for ten years now, and they really have a lot of support (or so I 've heard), so they are pretty trustworthy so send you money to...

And now really, what is 40 bucks? One night less in the pub
