Brit awards

Does exactly what it says on the tin. Some of the nonsense contained herein may be very loosely related to The Sisters of Mercy, but I wouldn't bet your PayPal account on it. In keeping with the internet's general theme nothing written here should be taken as Gospel: over three quarters of it is utter gibberish, and most of the forum's denizens haven't spoken to another human being face-to-face for decades. Don't worry your pretty little heads about it. Above all else, remember this: You don't have to stay forever. I will understand.

For those of us able to watch British TV:

The Brit Awards.
It's all just a lot of toss, isn't it?
Russell Brand=self-absorbed, trying-too-hard bore.
I was more shocked the last time I caught the front page of the Daily Mail.

Yes.

And might I just add that James Morrison should be stoned to death by a group of 8 year-old girls, the smug talentless oh-so-modest c**t.

I have age and experience on my side so, I know it is a good idea to avoid 'tabloid telly' of any kind.

Nietzsche said that life was a choice between suffering and boredom. He never said anything about having to put up with both at the same time, but then he never had to watch the Brits.

(although the gf just pointed out that I should "be wary of taking advice from syphilitic reclusive 'tache-wearers", which are sound words of wisdom).

I switched (not put on to 'standby' you'll notice) my telly off at about 04:15 this morning when The History or Discovery channel was no longer keeping my eyelids from closing.
I haven't switched it back on. Yet, I will later when all this unpleasantness is done.

In the main, I survive on UKTV/History/Discovery and occasionally BBC4.

aren't Cuttlefish odd creatures?

I don't have the attention span for a movie Si, wee progs about the universe, cuttlefish or how snowboards are made are my idea of a guid 'Bus Surfing' experience. ;D

It's from the Sermon on the Mount, I believe. That Christ was a wise fellow.

Nay. 'Tis from the book of Dalglish, in his epistle to Sammy Lee, in which he warns against fraternisation with the clan Souness.

i'm with JB here. telly can be a box spewing trash into the living room, or a place to discover the wonder of the universe (pass me a :urff: bag)

...does the Oasis Lifetime award mean we are soon to put out of our misery and if so can we draw lots to see who gets the honour?

I actually quite like "Definitely Maybe". It was one of my favourite earliest albums. I remember borrowing a copy of it from the library, some six or seven years ago, and make a cassette recording of it (before I got a computer), so it'll always mean something to me.

I don't really care for anything they made after Morning Glory though, with the exception of a few songs. But they're music isn't that bad.

I think they won the "Most pissed and irritating stupid f**king American award".
After an hour of The Brits I was in total despair and had to switch off.God no wonder most of us on here are still talking about a band that haven't released a record for 14 years when crap like The frattellis are winning awards.

And I finally got to see who this Russell Brand is, I can see why he's loathed. I think it would have been better presented if it was Russell Grant. He sounds like one of those "Cockneys" who turn up in American sitcoms and say "Gor Blimey, that's luvverly". Rob Newman did that "Indie" spiel ten years ago, as well. Plus he was funny, and didn't resort to making jokes about soldiers being burned alive in tanks. Think I prefer Vernon Kaye..
Still, Scissor Sisters performance was rather fun with all the disembodied legs, and Anthony Head just rules.

Turned the Brits on during half time in the football last night.

Didn't even make it through that 15mins before bailing out and turning back over. If that's the epitome of all that's currently cool and British in the music scene then I need a lie down in a dark room to try and work out how it all went so wrong and so quickly.

{shudders}

Oh, and was I the only one to wonder if Joss Stone had turned up in fancy dress as Crystal Tips and, if so, where Alistair was ? Uncanny.

It's not even a minor resemblance, though - hair, grin, posture, dress 'style', dress length.....all she needs is the heart on her chest and I'd need to do a double take !
