of possible interest to multimedia/audio geeks

Does exactly what it says on the tin. Some of the nonsense contained herein may be very loosely related to The Sisters of Mercy, but I wouldn't bet your PayPal account on it. In keeping with the internet's general theme nothing written here should be taken as Gospel: over three quarters of it is utter gibberish, and most of the forum's denizens haven't spoken to another human being face-to-face for decades. Don't worry your pretty little heads about it. Above all else, remember this: You don't have to stay forever. I will understand.

Best of luck to them, there was need for a linux-based STABLE audio proggie, but I won't dive into it until version 6 or 7, and even then...

Steinberg Cubase is such a reknowned product, together with Digidesign ProTools, it will take a couple of years for Ubuntu to prove itself worthy to compete with the big guys.

Yet, always nice to see genuine progress is made to make it work! ;D

As I understand it, Ubuntu Studio is actually an operating system (based on the Ubuntu linux distro) specially configured for audio/video/heavy duty graphics work (so presumably a lot of work has been put into reducing latency on audio, beefing up the graphics etc) rather than a specific prog.

No idea which actual progs come with it, but maybe a designed-for-audio operating system will encourage linux developers to improve the existing applications now that there's a free platform for specialists.
