The ORIGINAL Temple of LOve?! Damn where is it

Hello, I'm new on these forums. AAnd I have a question for all that could answer it; I've been looking for
The Original Temple of Love/Heartland 1983 single for ages- no TRACE of it on the web

So I wonder if it's even available at all? I'd nearly do a KILL to hear the original- The 1992 is, I think the Sister's Best song and that's how I learnt of them- it was included in a video clip about something as a track, and I thought WOW...had to know who made it.

But I heard of some interview with Eldritch in which he says the original is even faster, and ofc does not have Ofra's voice in it. I have also heard it was a huge hit back then (83) and, together with Alice, defined the pre-FALAA era of the Sisters. So it got me wondering, how exactly does it sound? ANd where can I get it?

You can get it on 7", 12" or on the "Some Girls Wander By Mistake" compilation.

It most definitely does exist, is much much faster with more multi-tracked guitars, and certainly no Ofra.

Here's one place you can buy the 7" - http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/SISTERS-OF-MERCY- ... dZViewItem

And here's SGWBM (with a clip of the original) - http://www.amazon.co.uk/Girls-Wander-Mi ... 108&sr=8-6

And welcome to Heartland! :D

The 7" is a bit more difficult to find, but still not all that rare. With just a little persistence you should be a able to get it from second hand record stores, not to mention online shopping.
The 12" and the SGWBM compilation are very common.

Hello and welcome to HL. 8)

Thanks :D

I thought the SGWBM compilation only had the 92 version. but now that i think of it, youre right- that would be utter #$%^$*!&.

I never was able of finding a download of it. I did order Floodland tho, its my utter favourite, but if I'm going to hear TOL i guess I 'll have to buy the "7, or put another 20 euros for one song

I would seriously recommend getting the "Some girls..." compilation Tidal. Not just for the magnificent original 12" version of TOL but it also features The girls at their post-punk best.
If you've only recently discovered TSOL through TOL 92 and Floodland, some of their earlier singles and,in particular, the tracks from The reptile house are gonna come as a shock. But ,believe me, its worth sticking with and you'll soon be as hooked as the rest of us on here.

I paid 7€ for the 7". The 12" usually goes for 15€, so you might as well get SGWBM.

Dunno where you are, Badlander, but here TOL singles go for around £2-3. ;)

Not on the mainland they don't. :innocent:
Vinyl Tap is asking £6 for it. They usually are just a bit overpriced.

Edit : plus 7€ is about £4.50, so no, I don't think I got robbed. 8)

Oddly enough, round here the 12" version is more common but also more expensive. Go figure. :?
It's probably because most people think 7" don't have any real value anymore.

maybe I forgot to mention a few things. This post was about the original Temple of Love. But since you've all begun suggesting things, let me introduce myself;

It all started four months ago, when I came across a World of Warcraft movie
about a Druid called Mafk (sorry if you dont like WoW, I do), and I decided to watch it. The '92 version of Temple of Love came past during the movie, and at first I was not very interested, although it caught my attention. Knowing absolutely nothing about Goth(or post-punk experimental rock, yes I know the sisters dont like to be called goth), I thought it was some kind of wacky hardcore techno-rock music. Eldritch's voice and Ofra on the background making him sound like a pimp after a rough night out, and the lyrics made no sense at all.

But I liked the movie, and after a few times watching it, the TOL song began to intruige me more and more. I began to appreciate its fast, hard lines and decided to download it. After that, I was totally caught up into the song and couldnt wait to hear it again, and again, and again, after coming home from school. I began reciting the lyrics in myself on the bike to school and on the way back. I was wrapped up by the Temple of Love..

I wondered if it had a video, and went on yotube, there found the video. Didnt make much sense, but the opening looked nice. I found a few "related videos" links to Dominion, Lucretia and Corrosion. Well.. didnt take much more after that. I loved all of them ( Dominion vid is gone ) and began to appreciate the Sisters as a band more and more.

After that, I wanted to find out what the flashes during the video of TOL meant. I sought and found Doctor Jeep, and linked the other flashes to Lucretia and Dominion. Didnt find the other flashes like the drums, or that sand-coloured building. I spent quite some time with just these songs on my playlist.

But after some time, I wanted more songs of the Sisters. So I downloaded Alice, Marian, Black Planet, No Time to Cry, Burn it Down, Walk Away and More. I created a playlist with only these and lasted with them for some time, especially liking Alice, Black Planet and Marian.

Just a few weeks ago, boredom struck again and during a night staying up sleepy I tried to find all Sisters clips I could find, and download more. I found a huge selection of songs, and began wondering who these sisters were. I searched Wikipedia, found it too limited, and began searching for their history. Read about Eldritch the solotripper with the deep voice, the band forming and breaking up again around him over and over again. I learnt of First and Last and Always, Floodland, Some Girls Wander by mistake and A Slight Case of Overbombing.

I listened to the numbers, waiting for my taste to decide which I liked and which I didnt. Driven Like the Snow, Something Fast, Under the Gun and Heartland had my liking. I noticed the differences in style, from the first crazy attempts of music like Watch and Home of the Hitmen, and early successes with Alice, Andrenochrome, Valentine and Phantom to the Synth-era with the Floods, most of my favourites (Driven, Corrosion, Dominion and Lucretia), and their mysterious last album Vision Thing, with supposedly hidden meanings and dumb cliche rock on purpose, and their last releases like Under the Gun and Temple of Love '92.

Now I had a nice supply to listen to, and read a few lyrics. Sweeney's Valentine, 120x Heartland, Death by Drugs in Andrenochrome and Anaconda, and heart pains in Nine while Nine and Driven.

And then I began to wonder what the original TOL sounded like...which brought me to these forums :)

So there you go; my history of learning of the Sisters.

Sounds good to me. I just heard the Sisters on a goth compilation CD an English teacher recommended to me.

Welcome aboard, though. 8)

What the fcuk! Let's offer up a teaser for a new Heartlander! Welcome the this groovy site Tidal! :P

This has been in the 'sharing' section in various formats... below you will find an MP3 made from the 'Enter the Sisters (A Black October)' limited promo CD. I hope you have no problem using Rapidshare... if so, PM me and I'll e-mail to you if you like.

{ Sharing link removed by markfiend }

For the full length version, please seek out the album 'Some Girls Wander By Mistake'. This official release compiles a great chunk of the Sisters early discography. Also, the bootleg recording 'Some Boys Wander By Mistake' nearly completes their officially released material alongside the albums. The rest is available here and there. Have fun!

@ DrG: HUG

Damn man!!! Thanks! You just not only gave me instant access to that one song I just had to hear, but also probably saved me 20 bucks or something

Wow, Eldritch sounds kinda soulless on this one, so monotone... but the music, this is it! Thanks DrG!

Yeah... I do believe that he matured as a vocalist with 'Floodland'. Although on some of the other early stuff, young :von: emerges from the post-punk underground insane and wired for speed (check out Alice, Body Electric, Andrenochrome, Floorshow, 1969...).

Even though the Sisters have not released anything new since 1993, their history and backcatalog is fun to delve into. Also, there are some amazingly good concert recordings available in the Sharing section... for example:

I like this one... a lot!!! :D

P.S.; Thanks for the HUG!

See, I quite like the early vocal style. Adrenochrome and Body Electric, had they been faster and fuller, could have been pretty damn near punk.

The 7" version of Temple Of Love is an official Sisters release, and while technically all of the sharing may be *ahem* somewhat questionable *ahem* under copyright law, sharing official releases is a definite no-no.

No harm done though, carry on. 8)

but true, I had the feeling this wasn't exactly entirely legal..

aw well is Limewire legal? used that to get 99% of my sisters songs, otherwise I'd never had heard of them anyways
