Heartland

Can someone explain a few of these? I've seen a few good sites about 'em but kinda think THE sisters community will know better...

I've heard some thinks about Floorshow referring to some novel in which the "bodies" are corpses, Valentine referring to a fictuous serial killer called Sweeney Todd that used a razor to murder his customers, and heard that Floodland was supposedly "erotic" on some points, on which I've only managed to conclude that "Her Hallway" and "the water come rushing in" can be somehow interpreted as erotic.. but can you all share your knowledge?

I think Valentine references a T.S Eliot poem, "Sweeney Erect," that has nothing to do with the Sweeney Todd story.

Floorshow is basically about a nightclub (the F Club?), nothing more fancy than that.

This topic is one of my pet hates/loathings, but the Lyrics section contains all the speculation you could ever want.

I so envy the stage that you're in, Tidal. You're young and you seem to be at the begining of the trip.
As for Floodland, it's not "erotic on some points", it's erotic on every point. But you don't need to understand the words to hear that.

yeah well, I think I am... it's not just because I think their music is great
( I'm a very optimistic and happy person and I'm listening to dark, gothlike music ?! wtf) but also because I somehow feel like I'm in the eighties, like I'm in the past, when I listen to their songs...their songs could just as well have been made today, but somehow they remind me of the past... and somehow I'm loving it (I'm 17!? why am I getting all nostalgic like a man in his fourties?!)...

All I can think is...

You lucky lucky bastard. You're going to hear all of this cool stuff for the first time.

Ah, for the fresh experience of being blown away by it all, all over again!

By the way, on the lyrics front, I stopped doing English Poetry almost 19 years ago, so I'm hardly qualified to comment, but sometimes a cool line is just a cool line. A lot of Von's stuff easily lends itself to over-analysis, and it can be fun to go down that route, but maybe something like "hot metal and methedrine" is there for the sole reason that it rhymes and sounds rather great while doing so?

I said that cause I imagine most Sisters listeners are nostalgic men in their fourties... But I am surprised I am listening to this kind of music and getting nostalgic already, at my age, while I never lived when the Sisters had their greatest years

Floorshow is an update [set in a leeds disco, the Phono as was] on TS Eliot's The Waste land, which is itself an update on dantes inferno and borrows heavily from Weston [as does most of Eliot's work]. Loosely Eliot aligns 'modern' city living with the cantos of hell... it's far cleverer than anything Eldritch pinched. Alternatively it's just a bunch of nonsense puns sat upon a page...and latterly with a good tune to boot.

Sweeny is oft mistaken for Todd. he is not, he is a fat Irishman, but that's a lesson for another day

I'd think Eldritch used a combination of Todd and the other Sweeney; in the Sweeney it's about the "clutching" and a "shriek subsiding" but ELdritch used it as a way to describe a murder (the razor "bites", the "man is dead" ) in the Eliot way, which in turn matches so exactly with Todd's murders, that I think it can't be a coincidence.

This show is very very very wrong, very very dodgy humour....but you may laugh a bit. there is heaps of it. (in all senses of the word)
