I'll be working on a new prototype soon - gonna create one that actually releases records...
But first I'll be following "old" one round Europe for a while...

For the sake of "understanding the man" as far as a hazy recollection of old interviews will allow (UTR IV), Eldritch has one brother and
one sister. He also has a God Son, as I recall him commenting that he'd failed in his first duty already i.e. he was supposed to be responsible for his spiritual upbringing.
Other strange "facts" include that he has cigarette burns on the soles of his feet, inflicted by a Chinese nurse when he was a baby,
at least, according to Von, that's what his parents claimed.
Other puzzles for the sharp of eye, include that from the Wake video to at least '93 he wore a plain band on his left ring finger, very similar to a wedding ring. seems to have vanished with the current girlfriend, though.

I didn't know about the sister. I also don't understand all the secretism. What for?!
anyway, it was mentioned in Dominion his brother tried to persue a career as an actor. I forgot to ask at the time, but he did he have any luck? Is he also "famous"?

As I understand it, it isn't so much Von's privacy, although that's also an issue, as his family, that he's been concerned about over the years.
Let's face it, you've just got to see the tabloids flocking around every muppet that once shared a bus with who ever is the most retardeed person on the current series of Big Brother to see his point...

I don't know about the retarded people in your Big Brother show. I've my own retarded people in my country's Big Brother show to care about - and still I do not.
However I'm not retarded and all I can see is maybe the Taylors are a family of artists... Singers, actors, and i'd like to know about Andrew's brother - sorry, i don't like to address him as Von [never have, never will].

you gotta be kidding me, as Eldritch has always denied his family in a sort of way. You see, he is not famous enough anyway, so let's be realistic.
The way it seems to me, his brother never had any luck.
If it's so, and Andrew is trying to protect his brother's "failure"/lack of luck, I'd admire Eelddritch a lot more.
But, unless i'm really mistaken, Eltrich is not the kind to protect his family.
Show me wrong and I'll believe you.

First up, apologies for any offence given - I wasn't implying anyone here was retarded, I was merely illustrating my point with a comment about the British ability to take an interest in nobodies.
Second, Eldritch, Von, Spiggy, "a rose by any other name", or turd, s**t, excrement, for that matter!
Thirdly, some clarification, the UTR interview I referred to in my original posting took place in '92. The Sisters had just stormed into the UK charts at No. 3 with the reworked Temple Of Love, played a sell out show at the Birmingham NEC, and headlined the Reading Festival the year before. It was the peak of their commercial success in the UK and Eldritch could justifiably have been concerned about privacy. Had he still lived in Britain there would probably have been pictures of him staggering out of clubs in the tabloids.
This brings me to the original point of this thread, someone's desire to better "understand the man". The crux of the problem, and I very nearly let it suck me in, is that Andrew Eldritch is a persona, a myth. Like Frankenstein's monster, he doesn't have a family, he has a creator. He is the Bastard Overlord who spends his days drinking vodka and snorting crystal meth. If you want to understand Andrew Eldritch, listen to the records, watch the shows and read the interviews. There are collections of press cuttings and old issues of the weekly music press transcribed online or available to buy through e-bay. If you can find them, I'd recommend old issues of UTR, towards the end it was full of pages of letters from fans and Eldritch's often lengthy replies. This, and maybe an appreciation of the works of T S Eliot, Kierkegaard and Elvis, are the key to understanding Eldritch.
When he goes home after the tours and puts his shades back in the sock drawer, he's Andrew Taylor. And you know what? Andrew Taylor is no more interesting than you or I. He plays on his computer, feeds the cats, goes down the shop for a pint of milk and watches TV with his girlfriend. He may have a dysfunctional family, then again he may not. If his brother is an artist, then you should be interested in his work because of its own merit and ability, not because his brother has a silly stage name and a collection of bad shirts.
Now, I admit there must be some level of crossover, I'm sure Mr Eldritch and Mr Taylor share similar views on politics and economics, and things that happened during Mr Taylor's formative years have probably influenced Mr Eldritch's work. Doubtless there is an agreement between them as to how much is allowed out into the public domain, and that is a line that shouldn't be crossed out of idle curiosity. Andrew Eldritch is public property, but let's respect Andrew Taylor's privacy. After all, you wouldn't want people hounding your family or partner, would you?

Sorry about the irony but thanks for the information. And me thinking he had bath with his shades on!!!

Good Lord! One of this days you'll insinuate we also needs to pee!!!

I am interested in his work! But first I have to know who is he. Why? Because it's quite obvious that something runs in the family. Like Liza Minelli is the daughter of Judy Garland and Vincent Minelli. Are you telling me it's not important? Of course it's important!
When we want to understand an artist, even is childhood is important.
Kurt Cobain didn't mind to expose his, for instance.
Andrew Eldritch is public property, but let's respect Andrew Taylor's privacy. After all, you wouldn't want people hounding your family or partner, would you?
Wanting to know if his brother had any success, knowing his artistic name etc, sounds very little a violation of privacy, especially since being an actor is also a public career. It's all about being in the spot-light.
And if I believe Eldritch is a genius in his work, I absolutely want to find out if his brother is equally as brilliant. It's about genes, you know?
No, I don't have any problems of conscience regarding my curiosity. It's only natural.
It's your right to disagree of course.
Now, about the time of Eldritch's birth, what I really want to find out, that may be consider a little bit "peeky", alright, if you balieve in astrology, and totally irrelevant if you do not.
Still, I'm not trying to find out Mr. Taylor's style of underwear, and my conscience is quite clear, thank you.

More, the way you call him isn’t as irrelevant as you think. Seems to me you want to protect Von/Eldritch, the myth. Well, I want not. I’m more interested in the person behind the mask. To be honest, I’ve always despised the mask. I’m interested in the real person, Andrew Taylor, the one who created what I like. The person, not the mask.
Because that’s the way I see him, as a person, not as a has-been myth of some kind that means nothing to me. He is a person just like you and me and that’s what I want to know. Disagree? Too bad. Want to keep up the mask? Sorry, I don’t approve the charade. So you keep on idolising your Von, while I try to find the real man behind it.
And that’s it.

To be honest, I have little desire to protect the "Eldritch myth", after all, he's devoted a great deal of energy over the last ten years to deconstructing it. Now, back when I was fifteen I bought into the myth whole heartedly, Christ, I wanted to be Eldritch so bad it hurt. I was also a Goth back in the 80's. At thirty-one I've long since felt any need to explain myself to other people - I am what I am. Some people still call me a Goth, others a plastic Goth, others still, a tosser. None of which keeps me awake at night. I'm just a man, and as such I've been mistaken about a great many things in my life. Your truth is your trust, my truth if my truth, and by your posts I think we're both gentlemen enough to agree to disagree. These days I go and see the Sisters because it's good entertainment, because it's an excuse to travel and waste money on drugs and alcohol. It's a distraction from worrying about my career and my mortgage and all the other crappy little details that go with being a grown-up. Yes, the Sisters have meant a great deal to me, and of course they still do, or I wouldn't spend money on the tickets. But I saw E£ldritch's "feet of clay" a long time ago. It doesn't stop me have a soft spot for him, like a strange ill-behaved uncle, the one who's always pissed at Christmas.
If you want to spend your time resaerching Mr Taylor, knock yourself out. Me? I'll be at the bar drinking Jack Daniel's and watching the pretty lights. Sometimes, we all need something to be shallow about.

Why not to think that Mr. Eldritch and Mr. Taylor are the same person?
Why not ?
It's true; probably what I adore of Andrew is just what represents and the way in which.
I feel that he expresses my very well through his music than more every other thing that it encircles to me. And it is just for that I feel the need to always know some more about him.
I love the concerts because, beyond for the better music, I can to observe him and to try to understand..... I try to understand why it has much "power" on me.
I feel to be much similar to he in my complexity and for this I do not see it like an unattainable God for to adore (fortunately it has passed the 33 years ), but I watch he for to watch in me....
(sorry for my english....

No. I really meant the time of birth. Hour/minutes. I guess I'll have to ask him if I ever meet him.
As for the first time he used Eldritch, yes, that's a good one. Ever since the biggining, wasn't it?

See?!
Now, back when I was fifteen I bought into the myth whole heartedly, Christ, I wanted to be Eldritch so bad it hurt.
Therefore the importance the myth has to you, I see.
But isn't it more interesting to know what kind of person created that kind of myth?
It's a bit like reading a book you like and you want to know the author that came up with that. For instance, Hans Christian Andersen. And suddenly everything makes sense.
My interest in Andrew Eldritch/Taylor is more of a compliment than being nosey, in the sense that I dont feel this interest for every person, obviously.
I admire him. I kind of sympathise with the person (well, not always! - but then we can never completely agree with someone all the time), I could even buy him dinner and talk about things, and yes, I feel like I know the person quite well. After all, how long has it been I've been listening to his songs, right?!
and by your posts I think we're both gentlemen enough to agree to disagree.
You are very mistaken. I'm not a gentleman.
If you want to spend your time resaerching Mr Taylor, knock yourself out.
I will.
The reason why I was so aggressive, I admit it, is that some people try to protect Eldritch more than Eldritch himself. Which is stupid because he knows how to protect himself quite well. He doesn't need an army of fanatics trying to protect his "privacy", like having a brother and a sister and a couple of parents somewhere is a hideous secret no one should know about.
That drives me mad with anger, I tell you. These people, more papist than the Pope, want to make believe the myth is real and that's ridiculous too.
Once Eldritch was asked what he was going to offer his mother on mother's day and he replied "Nothing. She doesn't give me anything as well". This doesn't sound like the answer of a person trying to hide a family situation, by the contrary, it says more than what was asked.
So why do some people believe he is touchy about such matters? When he is asked, he replies. Like a normal person, just like you said, not a "born in a lab" sort of creature.
These people make him look worse than he already is.
OK, now I'm part of the army of deffenders, only on the other side of the trenches. So I'll shut up too.
