Does anyelse think that leaving your 3 year old daughter and 2 younger siblings in an apartment on their own abroad is asking for trouble?.

I just hope they find her safe & well.

i heard about this before 8 this morning, then at 6 this evening heard that forensics had arrived an hour before. surely loads of evidence would have been destroyed by then?

Unless I'm much mistaken, isnt leaving children that age alone unsupervised illegal in this country anyway?

Aye, might not have been the wisest thing to leave her alone - but Jesus no parent asks for something like this

And the reason she shouldn't be left alone, in an ideal world, is because she's a little kid and could wake up, go wandering around and hurt herself/knock something over/fall down something... not because someone might come in and snatch her

It is nothing short of tragic if our societies have broken down to the point where you can't leave a kid alone for fear someone will come and take them

from what I heard on Radio4, the place they were staying at had babysitting and nanny facilities, why didn't they..... fill in the rest

well still a chance. Over here a 19 year old girl was murdered this week packed in a back with stones and thrown in the water Hope they catch the bastard soon

I was going to reply by saying I wasn't making a judgement, but on review I was and then again the nanny could be some psycho bint/bloke.

Isn't that f**ked up though. The idea that we look at all adults (particularly men) with suspicion now... like every man is a potential child abuser or murderer... I think that's such a sad indicator of The State Of Things when we think that way.

Also think it adds to the problem in a way - we've become used to these threats to our kids and I fear that desensitizes us to just how horrific such acts are. We start to shrug our shoulders and say "It does happen", rather than "How the f**k can that happen, that's horrific". We should be utterly disturbed and unsettled by the thought that someone could have taken that little girl and harmed her, but how many of us sat and ate our dinners with it on the news in the background?

And so the boundaries of what no human being should ever do to another are worn away just that little bit more

Hehe, maybe the "pished" has something to do with it Unkle Jam~es? Were my grammar or, punctuation not up to scratch there?

I just mean hearing about some abuduction/abuse/murder of a small child has become such a regular thing for us now, and we have this sense that it's a constant threat and reality that we have to learn to live with. Rather than feeling as appalled as I think we ought to. I don't know whether these crimes are more common now than they ever have been or whether we just live in such a media-saturated world, but actually I do suspect these things are happening rather more frequently than they did and I can think of several reasons why (though I won't confuse the issue by going on about them here).
We've just kind of become more and more used to hearing of increasingly heinious crimes being carried out against children (and indeed the elderly too to an extent)... my point was just that this slowly wears away at our ability to be shocked by these sorts of things. The bar of taboo is raised slightly higher.
And for someone with a genuinely psychopathic mentality, nothing appeals and thrills more than breaking a social taboo, saying f**k you to all constraints of humanity basically.

Any good or clear as mud? Don't answer that, it's late and I've had one hell of a day
