Another version better than the original?

Outside the mainstream sisters releases we have a lot of other songs like Good Things, the new ones, Garden of Delight etc. and a bunch of demo's, live versions, alternate versions ...
But a few times I have found myself liking another version of an official Sisters song actually better than the original official release. In my case that's especially the Walk Away demo (was really surprised, love it now), and
the karaoke version of Black Planet (which is less dull in my opinion), and in lesser amounts I like the live versions of both Fix and Lights better than the EP ones.
Which are yours?

A Rock And A Hard Place sounded MUCH better in the earlier mixes. That "sliced" intro was pure class.. in fact, pretty much all of the versions on the Last Magician Of Rational Thought EP were better than the FALAA versions.
And Dance On Glass is great. I may like Black Planet the best on FALAA, but the different vocals do suit it well.
The Satanic version of Fix isn't bad, certainly makes a change. As does the demo version of Floorshow, more screaming and fuzz, though the single version is still pretty damn good.

I agree on the Walk Away demo, or pretty much any version of it aside from the official release.

Live takes on Heartland have always sounded better to me too, and likewise with Burn where it loses the gimmicky backwards vocals and gains a whole heap of power.

I'm a big fan of Blood Money but the live version just sounds 10 times better! Howling vocals to the MAX! :D

Loving the live versions of Burn on the Black October tour:

<Eldritch> Buuuuuuuuuuuuuurn </Eldritch>
<Avalanche> Bubba-budda-dum-bappa-budduddudda-bam-bam <Avalanche>

I really like the neverland demo, because of the way he sings :)

Which reminds me, are there any really good sounding recording of this? The best one I have is from the first night at Brixton '97.

although the reptile house ep is complete and as such utterly perfect, i have to agree with mr fiend re. the '84 (and for that matter '85) live versions of Burn. a shame it was never given an upgrade/update a la body electric (rather than TOL and alice).

and the last magician...version of a rock and a hard place is the only one with real balls.

i also prefer the session version of poison door (and you won't make me jealous) -simply for the beautiful piano sequence at the end.

Neverland demo for sure. Driven Like the Snow demo would be a contender, but the lyrics are too good to miss.

Giving Ground live may be better than the Sisterhood version.

Dublin Red Box 13/6/97?

strike that, the version from the Manc Apollo 11/6/97 is superior in sound and performance and it even has a Planet Dave cover :D

Dublin Red Box for "we know where your children live". You're right though, as well as the howling, the whole thing sounds really sleazy and filthy live.

@Lee: Ohhhhhh yeh, tinkly piano outro on Poison Door. :notworthy:

I pretty much wore out my Saints and Martyrs lp when I got it back in the late 80s. Listened to it far more than F&L&A.

I lately found back the "Black planet" video clip, and again noticed something I knew from my earliest Sisters days (Black Planet being the first FALAA song I've ever heard): that the song used in the vid is not only much different and higher pitched, but also; much better!

Depends on which version of FALAA you have. :D
