Dutch students invent powdered alcohol

I F*cking Love the Dutch
Dutch students have developed alcohol in the form of powder which they claim can be sold legally to minors.

Booz2Go is available in 20g packets that cost around 78p. When added to water it becomes a fizzy lime-coloured and lime-flavoured drink with an alcohol content of 3 per cent.

Harm van Elderen, 20, said: "We just looked what was the best for us, the nicest thing to make, and we thought this would be the best one to develop, it's all fresh, all new and it doesn't really exist in the world.

He and four classmates at Helicon Vocational Institute, located around an hour's drive from Amsterdam, came up with the idea as part of their final-year project.

Project manager Martyn van Nieropsaid: "Because alcohol is not in a liquid form, there is no law, so we can sell it under the age of 16 and normally alcohol can't be sold under 16, but because it's in powder from, we can. That's a little bit of an issue in Holland now."

The students said companies interested in making the product commercially could avoid taxes because the alcohol was in powder form. A number of companies are interested, they said.

Sorry Mr Weebs, I'm slightly lost here. What's great about the Dutch (or anyone) formulating an alcohol equivalent that can be sold to children, outside the existing laws that are there for a reason?

Reading from afar, you have kids and I guess you have no objections to them being exposed to this at 14 ... 12 ... 10 ...8 ... 6 ?

It ain't a Sherbert Dib-Dab we're talking about.

does that law (or lack of it) stand up in the UK and the rest of Europe?

i somehow doubt that the loophole will be around for long...and the tax issue will be followed up quickly as well...

as for My Kids, Your Kids...anyones Kids and drinking...sure it's going to be the next Alcopops...and so the world turns until the next time

Apart from the damage to kids, could you smoke this, inject it ?.

Totally understand what you're saying Andie as we all abused the law on alcohol whilst growing up. It is part of growing up.

However, this is alcohol selling to minors with no minimum selling age.

It's wrong and Stephen's endorsement of it is wrong.

What the fuck does that have to do with selling alcohol to minors? That's not the discussion. Read the initial post and refrain from the sedatives.

It's about selling alcohol to minors. With no downward age limit.

Powdered Alcohol sprinkled on your Rice Crispies for Breakfast I find a bit of a giggle, I can see the attraction for the product, nobody wants to see it go to kids, but it will, just like Beer, Wine, Vodka, Ciggies, Smack, Crack, Coke & Speed, it's life, it's s**t, it happens, we don't stop driving cars 'cause kids get knocked down everyday.
Kids get things we don't want them to, Powder Alcohol...........the very thought of it brings a smile to my face :D

Jeez. How something can be blown out of all proportion. Apparently these students did this as a final exam project. I don't think they actually developed the powder themselves - they got it from a chemical company. They then added various elements. The School that they are studying specialises in the development of foodstuffs. Consumption of alcohol by minors is an offence in the Netherlands and is punishable by law. Either as powder or in liquid format.

Its a stunt. We might be considered to be the idiots of Europe by some, but trust me, we're not that stupid. ;)

Got a bit weird this thread :urff:

Even though there is no minimum age limit , you have to really wonder what sort of person would sell it to a young child right?
Law or no law, people should be responsible. Unfortunately, there re some who couldn't give a sh!t.

I do however, find the notion of someone making a powdered form of alcohol amusing.
The legalities of who can buy it or not don't really detract from that.
So, thanks for making me smile Weebs . :D
