I got a bittorrent share containting some flac files of a Newcastle '85 gig, but what are FLAC files? And how can I open them? I really feel like having a treasure chest in front of me but not knowing which key to use :(

I use 4music's Flac to mp3 converter- though I'm getting worried about the fact that I only have 6 days left on the unregistered copy

download flac front end from http://flac.sourceforge.net/download.html
It's free.
They are a compressed lossless format.
Easy to use & free to use forever.. :D

See also http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/FLAC

Greatly preferrable to mp3 and other lossy formats especially for archiving music (I rip my CDs to flac immediately after buying new ones and never touch them again), unless you want to store stuff on your portable mp3 player, in which case you can encode an mp3 or ogg from a flac just like you would from a wav or raw track. Best thing is it's free, unpatented and open-source. The files are of course a bit larger than with lossy compression.

Foobar2000 is used by most seasoned traders for seamless playback of FLAC's and other media files. http://www.foobar2000.org/

Thanks for this link Karst , finally something that works !
I had some things in FLAC files on my computer for a couple of weeks already ,
and I was beginning to think that I'm really stupid or something,
because all the other things weren't working , but this worked straight away :)
