Who do you listen to that never gets mentioned on Heartland?

There's loads of bands/artists out there that frequently crop up in Heartland conversation, but who do you listen to that you don't ever recall getting a mention on the board

I've been on a big Dinosaur Jr trip recently, and from where I'm sitting right now I can see a stack of Bad Religion albums, pretty much everything that Power of Dreams ever released, more Wedding Present records than is really healthy to own and so many Guided By Voices albums that I've never have a chance to listen to them more than a couple of times before picking up another one. And Warrior Soul are on the stereo as I type.

What about the rest of you ...

Spacemen 3 are not quite never, there's the occasional mention. But they'd be the nearest for me.

Good shout!! Am alone in the flat at the moment, could be a good time to give Dreamweapon a spin. Do you like Spiritualized as well? I've caught 3 of the acoustic shows this last year and each one has been mind-blowing. Totally minimalist, but really powerful at the same time. It'll be a real shame if they haven't recorded one for offical release. Fair few S3 numbers get played, Lord Can You Hear Me especially sounds better than ever

Lately, I've been on a Bad Brains kick, as well as Chris Isaak, neither of whom I've ever seen mentioned on here, to my recollection. I'd not actually listened to Bad Brains in at least 10 years, so it's been like meeting up with an old friend. "Sailing On" is such a great tune. I'm looking forward to hearing the new record, "Build a Nation." Jessica's Crime are also groovy, but I'm the only one who ever mentions them around here--probably because I'm in Texas, and they're from Texas as well (they've just announced plans for an all-covers album, which should be interesting). There are a few other people around here who like Mark Lanegan, but I seem to be the only one who really evangelizes him to the board :) I'm also the only advocate for the Immortal Lee County Killers hereabout, which is a shame. They're a killer live act. I think I may also be the lone Nomeansno fan around here.

Is it bad etiquette to keep replying to a post you started yourself?!?

Lanegan's great, I love the way his voice sounds so lived in. Every year it gets richer and richer. I have the Screaming Trees anthology (plus a couple of his solo albums) that compiles their SST years and I couldn't believe how good it sounds - I was never a fan of the band from what I'd heard when grunge was in vogue, but this was a bargain bin purchase that completely changed my mind. I saw him about 3 weeks back playing with Isobelle Campbell at the Secret Garden Party. He stalked on stage clad totally in black, didn't look at the audience once, didn't look at Isobelle once, didn't speak a word, and then walked off after about 10 songs without even acknowledging there was anyone else on stage. It was broad daylight when they played, one of the weirdest billings I've ever seen. Loved it mind.

Evangelise away Sultan :)

'awkwind keeps getting mentioned, so I won't, but Momus never seems to get a look in. I looked for his Tender Pervert album for years and found Slender Sherbert, which is remixes of a lot of the same songs. Easy on the ear, but some of the lyrics are truly nasty.

Revolution has always been one of my favourite tunes by them :notworthy:

I would never expect to see the mighty Belle & Sebastian mentioned on this message board but then I always thought it was downhill after Isobel left (and she just got mentioned)

Aerosmith don't often get a look in.
Also The Glove, Elastica & The Wannadies.
They're on my list for the weekend, so I might post a CLT later :D

Bruce Springsteen, Lone Justice, Kim Wilde.
A great deal of doo wop & soul music (Sam Cooke, Curtis Mayfield, William Bell, Lamont Dozier, Marvin Gaye, Al Green, Donny Hathaway, Isaac Hayes, Quincy Jones, Ben E. King, Gladys Knight, Mel & Tim, Phillip Mitchell, Billy Paul, Wilson Pickett, Otis Redding, Percy Sledge, Johnnie Taylor, Stevie Wonder...).
Some French artists but not a whole lot, because most French pop music is utter pish (Etienne Daho, Michel Polnareff, Miossec, Les $heriff...).
Folk music.

You are now an undisputed cool person in the FGG book.

Darrin Verhaegen for President! :notworthy: :notworthy: :notworthy:

All Dark Ambient stuff here, as well as metal, rock, goff, dance, techno, classical, electro, jazz, etc...

There's not much I DON'T listen to, and there's nto one band I never dared mention here on HL. I know you guys are a tolerant bunch of peeps ;)

Some stuff is frowned upon chez IZ, being:

- R'n'B (and I don't mean rhythm and Blues) - most of it is utter pish, tho I kinda like the odd Snoop Dogg track, because it is back to the old-skool Grandmaster Flash and LL Cool J sound...

- Gabber House - arh! Brainless pounding away with stupid Mickey-mouse vocals, a brain-number if ever I witnessed!

- too much Jazz. I mean the very difficult stuff (modern? contemporary?) with the finger-breaking chords and the ten-tempo-changes-a-minute. Nice fer a moment, not for two hours...

- some others I forget.

- Dumb rawk music. Think 'Nickelback' in the 'I wanna be a Pearl Jammer' category, think 'Avril Lavigne' and gang in the 'Teenage Angst' category.

IZ.

Well, with lyrics like you ain't seen nothin' till you're down on a muffin
then you're sure to be a-changin' your ways" that's no surprise.
