Von and Mr "Ray" were bestest buddies around the time of the Floodland recordings, weren't they?

I heard a rumour that James Ray (Eric Whatsisface) may have contributed to of the Floodland recordings - bass, synths, programming etc - but without getting credited.

Given Von's attitude towards Patty's "contributions", I think this kind of fits the pattern

Anyone else know anything about this?

And what James Ray stuff did Von work on?

James Ray _IS_ credited in the Floodland sleeve notes, but only in the "Thanks to..." bit.
In 1986 AE produced the first single by James Ray & The Performance ("Mexico Sundown Blues"/"Edie Sedgwick") and possibly one other ("Dust Boat" or "Texas"), can't remember which.

Texas is brilliant, but my 7" is all warped

James Ray were on stage with the Sisters, in Montreaux for instance, playing Gibson guitar and saxophone, during the Floodland-era. Playback, but still. I wouldn't be very surprised if they collaborated somewhat during Floodland, but I can't tell for sure.

I had both of them, Mexico Sundown Blues and Texas on 12" and the album covers were magnificent (as Andrew puts it, blue and sunset yellow) but I sold them both for nothing to a distant friend of mine, stupid stupid me. Now I got the music on that Fifth Column CD, but not those covers, wich was what I really wanted. And Johnny Goodbye, that isn't on the CD anyway.

The album that PIB is reffering to is called "A New Kind of Assassin" - its a complation of the Mexico Sundown Blues 12" the Texas 12" and the Dustboat 12" - more details when I have dug it out of my collection.

I used to have it on CD but swapped it for a copy on vinyl LP and I cant remember why

My personal fave is "Texas" - great to listen to in the car! - as are all the James Ray Performance tracks

Very true. Great car music. On a freeway a warm summers night especially.
