A great show I thought, Loz Colbert on drums was incredible. Started right down the front, but it was a total brawl - not fun, just a bunch of knobheads punching each other. Glad I moved back, cos the sound was 100 times louder (and better) where I watched the rest of the gig. Ears are still ringing today. I can't agree that they're a nostalgia act, the old songs are too good to ignore, and with a new album on the way its hardly as if they're sitting on their laurels

My wife thought the Horrors were okay- personally I was impressed that they attempt to put on a show rather than just play their instruments.
I've been a fan of Evan for years so my main regret was that he didn't play longer...

JAMC were fantastic, played really well and did all the old numbers. 'Just Like Honey' had to be the highlight of the show

I enjoyed what I saw of The Horrors far more than last time I caught them. Birthday Party/Cramps vibe about the whole thing, and as you say, a good show.

As for Evan Dando, I thought he was terrible!! I'm a huge fan, have seen him more times that I care to admit, but Friday's gig just seemed phoned in. Zero personality and a grim look on his face suggested to me that he just didn't want to be there. The brief Black Sabbath cover and Ride with Me was the only bright spot.

Apparently, JAMC also wanted to do Sometimes Always, but couldn't find anyone to sing Hope Sandoval's parts. A shame - love that song.

So Evan wasn't great- he did My Drug Buddy which is one of my all time favourite tunes and a 'phoned in' performance by him is still better than half the garbage some posters on this site listen too...

Its been 19 years since I last caught J&MC @ Brixton, and I thought the show was great.

As for the support act, I know you have to make sure they're inferior, but Evan Dandos appearence was just terrible and completely misplaced. The Horrors were just a wall of noise, and very unpleasant.

J&MC showed that they still rock after all this time.

I saw them there in 87 when Motorcycle Boy & the Soup Dragons supported.
I enjoyed MB, but the Dragons were fecking shocking.

I thought the support was the Soup Dragons but that must've been some where else. The Soup Dragons were dreadful then as well, and I still paid to see them headline later on

I've just looked on April Skies and the support in 1989 was The Perfect Disaster.

I'm kind of surprised everyone liked them - I honestly thought they sounded like a bunch of session muso types replicating the sound of the albums, fronted by 2 blokes who didn't really want to be there.... neither of which could play guitar
I never had the opportunity to catch them first time round even though I had the albums.
I expected a whole lot more!

saw them on the Automatic tour and like Motörheid a month or so later, I was completely underwhelmed
