A Star Wars cartoon series developing the plot of the current trilogy is to be made for television.
Twenty three-minute short will form a bridge between the storylines of Episode II: Attack of the Clones, and the next film.
It which will be shown by the US Cartoon Network in November.
Star Wars director George Lucas chose animator Genndy Tartakovsky to create the Clone Wars series.
Howard Roffman from Lucasfilm said: "This is a big event in the history of Star Wars.
"It's the first time George Lucas has allowed the stories to be told through television."
The cartoons will continue the space saga from where Attack of the Clones left off, at the beginning of the Clone Wars, an epic conflict that pits the old Republic against an evil separatist movement.
As the war unfolds the Jedi Knights lead the Republic's forces against a series of new and ruthless adversaries across the galaxy.
A Cartoon Network spokesman said: "These new characters, battles and intricate stories will add an exciting new dimension to the Star Wars saga."
