As is the case for the US, but more so for the UK, it's merely about tradition and the keeping of the heritage or whatever you want to call it. Has its charms I s'pose....

But easy to use, practical etc? Naah. Now if 1 pint were composed of 1000 millipints, on the other hand

Logic doesn't always prevail. Even in the rest of the world:
why is an hour = 60 mintes; or a minute = 60 seconds? Why are there 24 hours in a day?

I say we go for 10 hours in a day, 100 minutes in an hour, 100 seconds in a minute.
Might make it 10 months a year too, while we're at it.

Unfortunately, the year will have to have 365 days - i don't see how to get around that one.

Yeah, and ya know why we have 60 seconds in a minute, and 60 minutes in an hour - and seconds and minutes in degrees etc.? - Down to an olde numbering system based on units of sixty instead of ten (i.e. Decimal) - All thanks to our chums in what is now Baghdad/Iraq! - Apparently that is where 'Civilisation' started! - Funny that eh?!

&
\HOLLY: I'm not bored. I've had a really busy morning. I've devised a
system to totally revolutionize music.
LISTER: Get out of town!
HOLLY: Yeah, I've decimalized it. Instead of the octave, it's the
decatave. And I've invented two new notes: H and J.
LISTER: Hang on a minute, you can't just invent new notes.
HOLLY: Well I have. Now it goes: (Singing) Do Re Mi Fa So La Wo Bo Ti
Do. Do Ti Bo Wo La So Fa Mi Re Do.
RIMMER: What are you drivelling about?
HOLLY: Holrock. It'll be a whole new sound. All the instruments will be
extra big to incorporate my two new notes. Triangles will have four
sides. Piano keyboards the length of zebra crossings. Course, women
will have to be banned from playing the cello.

The guys that came up with the French revolution also went for that, there's still some decimal clocks lingering in Paris. (according to wiki that's not even the only decimal clock )

And new the names they invented for months were truly poetic :notworthy: (think poets came up with those).

On topic: Don't mind pints, but at least do distances and lengths the regular way, miles and yards and feet and inches mean nowt to me

Not too bad, as a pint is slightly more than 1/2 litre (0.568l actually). And who can say no to some extra beer ? ;D
Round here, when you order "a pint", what you get is in fact 1/2 litre. What a rip-off !

Not bad and not good.....simple when you will drink a pint of beer, you will tell me:" yeah, i drunk about half-litre", but you will be drunk in the same way :innocent:

Would be more convenient for us "Europeans" (isn't it great how people in the UK & Ireland always refer to us like that - as if they live on a different continent altogether!), but then you'd have nothing to laugh about. Like Toyah Willcox trying to sell the French pork scratchings (C'est quoi? Un cochon qui se gratte?). Priceless.

The reasoning for 60 minutes, and 24 hours, is their amount of factors.

60 divides evenly by:
1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 10, 12, 15, 20, 30, 60
24 divides evenly by:
1, 2, 3, 4, 6, 8, 12, 24

Think that's about it...
