Gravel? He's funny alright, but the only adult on that side of the room is Hillary.

Only one candidate will do.

Never a truer word.

Why settle for the lesser evil?

Iä! Iä!

not to be confused with the nowadays resident jackass' 'Eeee-arhhh! Eee-arhhh!'

I'd love to see a black or female president, but since I know next to nothing of the two, or the current situation in America, I can't really make a serious statement concerning presidency....

I can show you politics in America. Ready?

"I think the puppet on the left represents my beliefs"
"I think the puppet on the right shares my opinion."

"Wait a minute, isn't it the same guy holding up both puppets?"

"Go back to bed America, your government is in control. Watch your TV, drink your beer and get fat and stupid".

I have a dream that the nightmare of the Bush administration will be replaced with a president that thinks before it opens its mouth, that would rather reach out to opponents than declare war on them, that cares more about the real issues than soundbites and cheap electioneering.

But I know my dreams will be dashed - there are still too many people who believe that women and blacks don't belong in the White House, and so all the Republicans have to do is field someone who hasn't murdered a kindergarten full of kids in living memory, and they'll walk it.

Doesn't matter who gets voted in, the same corporations and shady characters will be giving whoever the money to to ensure their 'systems' remain in place. If by some miracle some uncorruptable genuine nice guy or gal got in, they'd simply be shot. :urff:

Still, have you seen how many channels they get over there?

I find it interesting that the last three posters have talked about how financial support dictates how well a candidate will do and what their platform is rather than the fact that Gravel recieves no support outside of individual contributions. He seems like a good guy and I like his stands on both Vietnam and Iraq. He has no chance which is a great shame...

Gravel seems to be competent.. but would he be representative of the American people today?
I mean.. Bush got reelected. If he could stand for a 3rd time, he'd probably have a lot of people voting for him once more.

Mark, I have never heard this country summed up so perfectly! Please take a well earned bow :notworthy:

So long as you give props to the late (and much lamented) William Melvin Hicks

What he would have done with this Bush administration is anybody's guess. I saw him live just after Clinton was elected, and his only comment was "My entire act died on Thursday night." Although I did like his quote attributed to another late (although not quite so lamented) public figure, one Saddam Hussein:
Saddam Hussein wrote:"We have nothing against America. We just want to see George Bush beheaded and his head kicked down the road like a soccer ball."
I guess the apple doesn't fall far from the tree.

Well, more and more people are awaking to the fact that usa is the true rogue country run by extremists and thus it's possible that the critical mass would be reached at some point for change to happen...notwithstanding mark's apt description, but most people are always fence-sitters and oblivious to goings on.

As for black or female president, would it not depend on the person? Hillary? Condoleezza?? i think not. There's no point in voting for a black or a female for the sake of it, dissing good male and white candidate on some misguided notion of "the country is ready for this or that special interest group president".

But anyway, you guys have to do something about the electronic voting system before elexions...demand for hand-counting of the votes...transparency! (And i'm not implying Kerry would've been a marked improvement, but once you might miss a really good candidate because of fraudulous vote-counting)

As for Obama, he seems to me to just be your run-of-the-mill alternative candidate, even more so than Ron Paul. Only Mike says the really hard-hitting stuff and seems entirely independent.

We haven’t come very far, if we vote for a person not because of their stances, but because of the colour of their skin, and last time I looked, Obama had nothing but empty words. Mike Gravel is the only person I would even consider voting for in the upcoming election, but sadly I expect Clinton is going to win presidency.
