08 October 2007: Big News
Hello everyone. I've waited a LONG time to be able to make the
following announcement: as of right now Nine Inch Nails is a totally
free agent, free of any recording contract with any label. I have
been under recording contracts for 18 years and have watched the
business radically mutate from one thing to something inherently very
different and it gives me great pleasure to be able to finally have a
direct relationship with the audience as I see fit and appropriate.
Look for some announcements in the near future regarding 2008.
Exciting times, indeed.

Maybe they'll set an example how to live without the record buisnesses intervention?

Judging by the stuff he's orchestrated whilst still in a contract I think lack of forthcoming releases will be far from the case. As examples, he's already given away the base samples for his latest album and leaked the multi-DVD "Closure" collection (all videos & live tour doc) onto p2p.

He seems to embrace all the things that most labels despise so I hope and, to some extent, expect him to surprise a few people........

yep they've become nin by numbers. There used to be something a bit dangerous about them now its insincere stadium cock rock, friend of mine saw them having dinner at Nobu every night before the brixton gigs...
